Do I need to transfer my visa exemption stamp to my new passport for a border bounce?

Hi All,

I've just got a new passport. Immigration in Samui said I don't need to transfer my visa exemption stamp (already extended 30 days) into the new passport for a border bounce - I just need to show both passports leaving and stamp the new passport reentering Thailand.

My visa run agent said I definitely do need to transfer the stamp to the new passport as they can't do this process at the particular border (Khuan Don, Malaysia).

Can anyone shed any experience or knowledge about which way works?

Thanks ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user recently acquired a new passport and is seeking clarification on whether they need to transfer their visa exemption stamp (already extended by 30 days) to the new passport for a border bounce. Immigration in Samui indicated that showing both passports would suffice, while their visa run agent suggested that the stamp must be transferred, especially since the specific border crossing at Khuan Don, Malaysia, does not allow for passport exchanges. Comments from other users indicate that both perspectives may be correct, with one advising that flying out is necessary to avoid complications.

Iโ€™d listen to the border bounce agent

I did and got the stamp switched over at immigration before my border bounce. Cheers

They are both correct.

Immigration won't swap tourist visa extensions over and you cannot swap passports at a land border

You need to fly out.

it's not a tourist visa, it's a 45 day visa exemption that's been extended by 30 days.

don't play with words!

It's exactly the same thing regarding the extension.

They won't change it over and neither will any land border.

You need to fly out

Samui immigration changed over the extended VE stamp to my new passport and did a land border crossing

Fancy explaining the wrong info in your little rant?
