Do I need to transfer my work visa to my new passport before a visa run?

Hi there! I just received a new passport because mine is full. I need to have my work visa transferred to my new passport but I leave next week for another visa run. Should I still go to the immigration office and have my visa transferred over or can I just take both passports to immigration at the airport and get my exit stamp as usual?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether they should transfer their work visa to their new passport before leaving Thailand for a visa run. Responses indicate that if on a single entry 90-day visa, it is not necessary to transfer the visa; carrying both passports is sufficient for exit and re-entry. However, if they have a year-long multi-entry Non-B visa with border runs or a yearly extension of stay, different procedures apply regarding the need for transfer at the immigration office.

@Nat****
, If you are on a single entry 90 day visa you do NOT need to go to the immigration office to transfer your stamps. You take BOTH passports to the border the next time you leave to get a new 90 day visa and they will stamp you out on the new one. You will then use that one to get the new visa from the thai consulate and not need your old passport anymore.

Hi all. I am on a 90 day non-B visa. Every 90 days I have to leave the country and reapply for a new visa at a Thai consultant\embassy. For some reason the foundation I work for doesn’t qualify for a one year, multiple entry work visas anymore. They change that for us this year.

Okay, seeing as they O/P didn't answer back I'll explain the two different procedures;

IF you hold a year-long, multi-entry Non-B visa (that you got from a thai consulate in another country ) where you border bounce every 90 days you simply travel with BOTH passports getting stamped out and back in on the new one. You do this because the immigration office does NOT transfer a visa to a new passport.

IF you hold a year-long extension of stay (that you got from the immigration office in this country) where you do 90 day reporting you need to go to the immigration office with BOTH passports and they will transfer your current extension, entry stamp and re-entry permit to the new passport. Then you only need the new one.

@Mari ******
and we have no idea what a visa run really means to the O/P :O it could be they hold a visa and just need a new entry on the one they have, OR it could be a real visa run where they go to a thai consulate in another country and get a new visa

Natasha was asking about in case of “Visa Run”...

hang about..

How about if you state whether you have a year-long, multi-entry Non-B visa (where you bounce out and back into the country every 90 days)?

OR

whether you have a yearly extension of stay from the immigration office?
