What are the risks and options for extending my stay in Thailand after a 180-day tourist visa?

My 180 days on my tourist visa are up at the end of the month.

I have done the 60 on entry and then the 30 and then a border run for another 60 days and now I have completed the 30 days again at immigration.

What is the likelihood of being able to do another border run or should I stay away for a few days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has maxed out their tourist visa in Thailand, having extended their stay multiple times and is considering another border run to secure an additional 60 days. Responses from the community highlight the risks involved in attempting another border run, noting that while there is no strict rule on the number of entries, repeated long stays can raise red flags with immigration. Recommendations include contacting a border run service for assistance, carrying necessary documentation such as proof of funds, accommodation, and onward travel, and considering applying for the proper long-term visa if planning to stay in Thailand long-term.

Why do people want rort the Thai system. I'm sure they wouldn't get away with it in their own country.

that wasn't my question.

I read and understood your question. And I stand by what I said. Rather than doing border hops, go home and do a retirement visa.

not everyone can meet the financial requirements, is one reason.

and this is why I asked the question,to give people the opportunity to give more than one answer. I am pretty sure if you had said "Go home and do a retirement visa would be my advice"in the first place,I could just got on with my day.👍

Just get the proper visa

You are not a tourist. At some point you may well get denied entry

I was in the same situation as yourself, so I left and went to Vietnam for a few days and paid 5,000bht to a visa agent for the VIP fast track service at the airport to make sure there was no issues with immigration

If you want to do another border bounce for another visa exempt entry I'd highly recommend you contact a border run company and ask them, they won't take you if they can't get you back in. Doing it yourself would be risky and staying out a few days won't change that

how much average please mate?

@Michael *******
it completely depends on where you are leaving from. Close to the border is very cheap. I think about 4000 baht from BKK now but someone here will know better

There's no definitive answer, but we've seen reports of immigration officers causing issues for people who've already stayed for 180 days on a METV. It might be wise to spend a few days outside the country or hire a transport service to take you out and back. Previously, doing a third entry wasn't a problem, but practice have tightened up over time.

staying outside of Thailand while the visa validity of the METV is going to expire is not gonna help in anything. It is rather advised to try a last border run while the visa-validity hasn't expired yet, is what he/she should do.

The person, of course, had to leave some time before the last extension expired, but this was to avoid a same-day border bounce, which we know some immigration officers are not particularly keen on.

well, most people would now recommend one last border run before the expiry of the 6-month visa validity. It would result in a last 60-days stay permit stamp. There have been reports of some refusals of such, at the borders. I would give it a try, have a plan B handy, and make sure you have the 3 famous proofs to show in case you get asked: 20,000 THB in cash, a few booked nights of accomodation and an onward travel proof out of Thailand within the 60 days you will get stamped in

There is no rule about how many entries you can get as a tourist. Some immigration offers may state 180 days but that rule doesn’t actually exist.

That said you’ve maxed out your time as a “tourist” and would certainly be a red flag to immigration if you tried to enter again.

No one can say if you’d have an issue but I’d bet you probably would. “A few days” isn’t likely to help. You’re not doing what a typical tourist would do and it would seem more likely you are trying to stay here long term (and therefore potentially working).

If you want to stay long term then look at the visa options that exist to do so.

my ex did 4 in a row, visa agent said she would most likely be refused entry if she tried another. She's now in saigon, plans to stay for at least 6 months to avoid any issues if/when she returns.
