Hi all! Last week I extended my 60 day tourist visa for another 30 days. When this expires, can I do a border run to Laos and re-enter on another 60 day tourist visa? Also, I’ve already done 2 land border runs to Laos this year. Will I have to fly out of the country now? TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The thread discusses the possibility of doing a border run to Laos after extending a tourist visa in Thailand. It highlights that multiple land border runs may be possible, but there are concerns about immigration scrutiny for long-term stays on tourist visas. Participants share experiences about their border run history and the necessity of securing appropriate visas for prolonged stays, such as the Education (ED) visa.

Check out latest E-visa requirements. That seems to negate border run !?

Does anyone have any updated or insights on E-visa for tourists already in Thailand looking to renew tourist visa

Staying most of the year on tourist exempt entries. Maybe secure yourself a visa for actual longer term stay?

yes sir it is my intention, i am a muay thai fighter and have actively been learning the thai language for 8 months so i have options for visas in either

I hope that’s because your actual intention is to study. ED is not the default visa for people who don’t qualify for any other visa.

I've been staying in Thailand nearly 1 year and never got pulled aside. Here are 30day tourist visa until last mo (60 days). The most recent change seems to require E visa from usa tourists.

You can. But be aware that the immigration officer has the final say. If they think you’re trying to live there (which it certainly looks like you are) then they can reject you as you’re not a tourist. The visa exemption is for tourists.

Dont need Multiple Visa???

You can come back in on exempt of visa 60 days ( no visa). Not a visa.

@Lynnette ******
he most obviously didn't have a "tourist visa" in the first place, but a visa -exempt entry. The usual misinterpretation

yes, probably.

You can do another land border bounce. The restrictions of two is lifted, but personally I would have chosen to use a professional land border transport company if you’ve already done several this year.

thank you so much! you are so knowledgeable about all of this visa stuff 😄

There’s no official statement regarding this and you can just do a border bounce and return immediately. However we know that some border points make up their own rules and demands that foreigners doing border bounce on their own need to spend minimum one -some two- nights out before they can re-enter. As I’m aware of the Nong Khai border is ok, but a border closer to Chang Mai demands two nights. I don’t have any overview here, that’s why I would have used a professional company my self. They know the name of the game and wouldn’t bring you unless they sure they can get another extension on your behalf.

I guess his first "tourist visa" was a visa-exempt entry. He doesn't have a clue. He can do another one, no problem. However, the two land-border entries he already made visa-exempt, could raise the eyebrwos of an Immigration official at the border
