Hi all I gonna be honest here:

My son and I are looking at the DTV for next August to go from UK. We will have the funds there but wanna ask few questions.

1. Is the funds (500,000baht) per person I be applying for myself and a dependent my son.

2. Can accommodation proof be the lease of a villa as we thinking get a base and then leave every 180 days for 30 days (we come back uk annually anyway) but thinking be nice have a place we not having to lug all our luggage all time as 30 days we could go via carry on easy.

3. Is it best to have the 3 months of bills payments on top the main funds or just have the main proof of funds.

I do content creation online so am self employed and will just submit my tax return or can I just send a portfolio of what I do charge etc.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around applying for a DTV visa for both the user and their son, including specifics such as the required funds per person, appropriate proof of accommodation, and additional financial documentation. Responses highlight that while some embassies require 500,000 baht per person, others may be more flexible with proof of accommodation. It is also noted that applicants may need to demonstrate self-employment through financial documentation.

Not relevant to your question, but are you doing home schooling or remote schooling for your boy? Can you give any tips?

I been home schooling my son for years so we going to carry that on. It not a temporary measure. I found key to getting stuff done is don’t make it feel like work so we do maths, English (be more Thai when there), science everyday. PE can be beach time easily or swimming. Geography can be map reading or destination learning history defo will be for us about cultural history in Thailand RE if wanna do it can be Buddhism life. You can do as much or as little as want if wanting to keep a uk curriculum like we do can use uk curriculum as a guide the rule there is 1 hr maths English and science a day rest is up to you.

Set a schedule to learn and then say they do what they want after if wanting an online place can find many online schools. Or sure there be a world school they can attend in Thailand xx

Answer to question 1 is it depends on so many things. Some embassies ask for 500K each, others just want a letter saying applicant will cover dependants costs, and others are just fine with first 500k only.. Q2 you don't actually have to book anywhere just name a place for the first few days. Q3 I wouldn't fuss about extra 3 months If you have more great

You can apply for the DTV, after you get your Visa number then you can apply for your son, citing your visa number as the primary holder, pay the fee for the dependant, and provide a financial sponsorship letter and your funding information again.

There's no requirement that you need to have accommodation but it doesn't hurt to have a booking for a week or so while you look around for something.

You can bounce out at 180 days and come right back in 5 minutes.

If you're applying as some kind of remote worker or a freelancer you will probably need to justify it with bank statement showing pay slips, that kind of thing. You can provide all that in the beginning or you can wait for them to ask for it, if they do. You simply need to convince them that you are a genuine freelance worker and have a client history and possibly a portfolio.

as a freelancer I don’t get pay slips but I got work transactions on my bank statement. Yeah I was thinking air BnB for a month then get place out there soon within month of being there as we like to just settle after 16hrs of flying intially. That good I don’t need to go out 2x a year at 30 days to come back. Cos nice to go somewhere for a few days then come back.

I don’t really wanna wait for them to ask for stuff as I feel that makes the process a lot longer and more work them as well as myself when I be working anyway xx

Depending where you apply, not sure about UK , but you don’t need payslips of any kind. For example in Hanoi , no payslips were provided but a 2024 tax return was. Other than that no other income requirement.

Anonymous participant 801 yeah I gonna give them my tax return as I just filled last years now so I sure that be adequate to be fair cos it proves I a sole trader xx

1. Per person, as its per application

2. I used 3 weeks airbnb, nothing more

3. Just main proof of funds, though more wont hurt.

Your son can piggy back the visa. There is additional cost if doing through agent but unsure whether he would need 500k. Seems a bit extreme for a child 🧐

yeah it what I was thinking but says for dv3 -child under 20 visa:

1. Bio data page of passport

2. Photograph past 6 months

3. Document indicating current location

4. Financial evidence: amount no less than £11,000 (500,000 THB) e.g bank statement, sponsorship letter

5. DTV visa of DTV holder

6. Proof of relationship to DTV holder

Extras:

Passport of parent

Parents council tax bill utility bill

Parents recent official bank statement show name and address

So wondering if now looking that I can do just a sponsorship letter

I thought kids under 16 don't get penalised for being on overstay/not having a visa? If you're planning on dipping in and out does he need one?

*this is not advice and/or criticism- just wondered if anyone could shed any light!*

14 years. Better to add the child to dtv, saves any potential hassle 🙂

on the DTV it does state each person needs a visa but they won’t get penalised for overstaying.

With a DTV we know we can stay 180 days and then need to leave Thailand for 30 days in order to reset the visa.

It the minor details trying to sort cos it written in a bit confusing way I have emailed the consulate but they not open till Tuesday I don’t see them being open Monday cos Easter bank holiday here xx
Karl *******
@Claire ******
You can leave for an hour to get a new 180 days, but obviously looks better if it's a little longer than that.
Claire *******

@Karl ******
can you cos that cool to know day out another place sounds nicer I read it 30 days out to reset it xx
Karl *******
@Claire ******
Nope. 180 days with each entry, without limitation on how long you're out

that so good don’t need to come back uk apart from to renew passports as that be easier in a 24hr period. Thankyou.

My family is coming in on a DTV as well. For my husband they accepted 500,000 baht (soft power) and just the address of our air b&b in Bangkok as where we will be living. The air b&b is rented for just 30 days while we hunt for a permanent residence.

For me and our 2 boys we made sure we had at least 2x the money required to avoid any issues.

Here’s the thing though, we applied in the US and every embassy is different. Some are more relaxed, some more strict. Hopefully this helps a little.
Urs ********
@Tori *******
May I ask if you plan to enroll your sons in an international school?
Tori ********
@Urs *******
that’s not an issue for us since I have a large social circle in Thailand and I speak Thai. I have been there many times before for school.
Claire *******

@Urs *******
no I not either I have been teaching my son since he was 5 as we had no local schools who had room to take him cos he has no brothers or sisters and many the Ukraine and kids taken into care have been bumped above him on the waiting when we had an influx here 2 years ago. Xx
Tori ********
@Urs *******
no, we are using an online program called Acellus Academy

@Tori *******
Then I hope that your boys will meet other children in the future neighborhood for socialization and that they will also learn the Thai language.

thanks the accommodation thing is interesting as that makes it all easier to worry bout 1st month rather than 6 months. Yeh I gonna message the consulate in London here in uk our only one 🙈 and hope they reply cos I know some are very understaffed so don’t answer much. 🫶

@Claire ******
I emailed our embassy months before I applied. They gave me a generic response but it included the answer to my question

they have an email and phone number for visa enquiries only here in UK but I not holding out to if they reply cos many places have bare minimum staffing and so don’t tend to reply them xx

that good to know and thankyou more I looking and hearing the more I realising I may have made the plan seem harder than it is lol 😂 xx

I wouldn't trust what you can read for a forum. I read cases here where people have their DTV (as dependant) just after showing 500k per person. Best advice? Just mail the embassy in the UK and ask them what their requirements are, the truth is that every embassy does its own way and what is accepted somewhere else might now be a valid option there
Brian *********
@Ky**
disagree they have slight paperwork requirements that maybe different some wanting more some wanting less but not the key requirements they are the same at all agencies of Thailand across the globe. But hey I’m sure you will tell me I’m wrong. Don’t go get everyone applies direct even you get an email it’s meaningless
Kyle **********
@Brian ********
of course I'm gonna tell you are wrong. Some folks got crypto accepted as 500k proof while most of the folks got a no no. Some folks got a dtv with a single appointment at the hospital while other got denied. Some folks are required to show their employment for soft powers while most of the embassies are not. Some folks got their visa denied in certain country but then accepted few days later in a different one while showing exactly the same documents. Emails are free, my advice is to double check with the embassy especially if you mind losing 300+ us$. Anyways, your life, your money. Do whatever the F u want, that was my advice but u are free to do your own way. Peace

yeah I just using all as a guide on their website in uk they showing same documents and requirements for both but it looks very confusing I gonna send email but wanted to ask here see what people say too. See if it came back as a general everyone had same kind of answer.

Only bit really clear is how to process it and how much it cost each us. 🙈🙈 I just want to make sure I get documents right first time I terrible to over think things sometimes thanks though xx
Kyle **********
@Claire ******
People here can claim whatever they want, the point is that right before you apply for the visa they will force you to accept the fact that the visa isn't refundable in any ways, even if the embassy does a mistake. The embassy I'm going to apply (dtv soft powers) to doesn't mention anything besides of a legit muay thai/medical reason on their website but once you apply they will ask you to prove you got a job and to provide the documentation for the company you are working for (even for soft powers!!!) . TBH they have mentioned that when I mailed them but if I know a folk who got the visa denied for that reason (he couldn't get the documentation cuz he was unemployed but with 100k us$ in the bank) and when he mailed the embassy pointing out that wasn't on their website they replied with a "You accepted when we claimed the visa is not refundable for ANY REASON IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE".

"The DTV visa allows the principal holder to bring in dependents. There is no limit to the number of family members, but they must be either a spouse or dependent children under 20 years old, and each dependent must apply and pay the visa fee separately."

The 500,000baht is required once.

your a legend thanks. Cos on consulate website it was stating DV1 and DV3 having both same documents so the bit with 500,000 baht was bit that confused me most. Thanks sooo much 🫶

This is US requirement though not the UK

@Claire ******
As Kyle has said it's really best just to ask the embassy in the UK - things change so fast. All the best with your DTV and time in Thailand 🙂 But from the best of my ability and what others have done the link above is fairly accurate.
