What are the requirements and application process for the DTV visa in Thailand, particularly regarding dependents and bank account funds?

Lingering questions about DTV that I'm not sure have been answered yet:

— Can the 500k thb requirement be a USD equivalent in a US bank account, or does it *have* to be in a Thai Bank Account (I have one, but keeping that much in it for that long seems tedious and unnecessary). Concerned that transferring that much into my Thai bank account, if left unused, will have to be transferred back into my US account, but at a worse rate 🥴

— Dependents: will *each* dependent *also* need to pay 10k thb? Ex. I have four dependents. Will that be 40k thb for the dependents?

— Dependents: will each dependent require proof of an *additional* 500k per person?

— When more countries are added to the E-Visa online application system (one of their goals listed in their timeline—looking at SEA), will you be able to apply for DTV online from a neighboring country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
There are lingering questions about the DTV visa requirements, particularly the 500k THB financial requirement and the implications for dependents. Key points include that the 500k THB can be in a USD equivalent in a foreign bank account at least for the initial application; each dependent will need to pay a visa fee of 10k THB, and an additional 500k THB proof requirement per dependent is currently suggested. Concerns about applying for the DTV visa from neighboring countries through the e-visa system were also discussed.

This visa sounds good if your not 50 years old then you can get retired visa etc ..it's a good way to stay in Thailand ..still expensive I think but if it works ok

0bht is the USD equivalent is about 14K. how much difference in interest you will receive it being in a Thai bank.
Michael *******
Happy with 2.5% at SCB especially as it’s tax free

@Michael ******
it's not tax free it is 15% on interests

big difference . Thai banks are so disgustingly inefficient that they need huge spreads between their interest rates on loans and on deposits to operate profitably. Keep your money out of the country for as long as you can.

My big question is for those already in Thailand. Where can we apply from? I am British with no plans of returning anytime soon. I will be in NY for 2 weeks next month though.

The visa is fairly new, so we'd have to see how embassies are going to deal exactly with an the details. However, there are some things we know.

— Can the 500k thb requirement be a USD equivalent in a US bank account?

Yes, that's allowed, at least for the initial application. Although you can extend your stay, this isn't really necessary as the visa is for five years and allows multiple entries. So whatever requirements we see pop up for that, you'll be able to work around them either way.

— Dependents: will *each* dependent *also* need to pay 10k thb? Ex. I have four dependents. Will that be 40k thb for the dependents?

Visas are always personal, no exceptions. So yes. There is of course the option to let them join on other visas, but let's face it: five years for 10k baht is not a bad deal at all. It's similar to what you'd spend on one non-O and five yearly extensions, and that's without re-entry permits.

— Dependents: will each dependent require proof of an *additional* 500k per person?

That is indeed how the requirement is currently listed in the info that's provided so far. Embassies could however deviate from that, and with this particular one they might see reason to. Best would be to inquire there.

— When more countries are added to the E-Visa online application system (one of their goals listed in their timeline—looking at SEA), will you be able to apply for DTV online from a neighboring country?

As long as you are in a country from where visas are applied for online, yes. Question is of course if/when neighboring countries join that list.

fairly new? It hasn’t been 24 hours. It couldn’t be any more new. None have been issued.

1) you can show money in any bank account. Money in Thailand is usually only required if applying for a visa or extension inside of Thailand

2) each DTV costs 10,000 baht

3) not sure but probably not

4) the way evisa currently works is that NO ONE is allowed inside of a Thai embassy or consulate that has adopted evisa except for Thai citizens seeking consular services

Have they informed if 90 day reporting is necessary as with all visas exceeding 90 consecutive days?
Brandon ************
@David ***
it's the assumption. But if you just do border bounces and never extend, no one will ever be able to fine you

@Brandon ***********
hi, is possible transfer evisa to new passport? Thanks
Brandon ************
@Milan *******
you will enter with both passports until your visa expires
Milan ********
@Brandon ***********
so with new and also with expired?
Brandon ************
@Milan *******
correct. Because your visa has your old passport number so they will want to see that passport but then they will put your entry stamp into your new passport.

Re: "each DTV costs 10,000 baht"

Meaning, dependents will have a DTV (not some kind of dependent equivalent under the DTV-holder)?

Asking because the requirements for dependents differ slightly (ex. "must show proof of DTV-holder's approval" or something like that).
Bart **************
@Thomas *******
yes the dependents will then have a DTV as well. This differs from letting dependents trail on a non-B, where the dependents get non-O, a different visa with different conditions.

Ahhh I see.

We were previously on volunteer visas (for an actual foundation, actually volunteering) pre-Covid, and everyone was considered a "follower." Wasn't sure if this would be similar or not.
