Hi, everybody!

I have a question about visa based on marriage. I have checked some information on the internet, also in this group, but I don’t understand clearly because there are people saying different things about it. So, I want to ask you guys if my understanding is right or wrong, as follow:

“There is a Non-O visa based on marriage, which you can obtain it from a Thai consulate outside the country, and it allows you to stay 90 days. This visa does not require you to show a proof of funds; however, you have to do a visa run to apply for it again for another 90 days

But if you want to apply for a Non-O visa based on marriage for one year (single or multiple entry), among the requirements there is a condition that you either have 400.000 THB in a Thai bank account or a monthly income at least 40.000 THB (in any bank account either Thai or your country bank’s account)”.

Can anyone help to clarify it please? Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-O visa based on marriage allows one to stay in Thailand for 90 days when obtained from a Thai consulate outside the country, and does not typically require proof of funds for purchase. However, to apply for a one-year extension (single or multiple-entry), you must show either 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account or a monthly income of at least 40,000 THB. Additionally, some immigration offices in Thailand issue the Non-O visa for 90 days, allowing for later extension applications.

It is also worth pointing out, in addition to the comment above, that you can also obtain an ‘Non O Visa’ within Thailand at your local immigration office, (you will have to check with your specific immigration in your area if they are able to issue an ‘Non O’ as not all can). The ‘Non O’ issued within Thailand is a 90 day visa, then after 2 months (some immigration offices 1.5 months) you can then apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on supporting your Thai wife. You will need the proof of funds for the ‘Non O Visa’ (no seasoning for the funds was required at my immigration) but seasoning is required for the application of the 1 year extension of stay.

And this is when people start using different words for the same thing.

There is no such thing as a "marriage visa". There is a "Non-O visa based on supporting a Thai female spouse". This is purchased at a Thai consulate outside of Thailand. This can be purchased as a single entry, or a multiple entry visa. A single entry visa allows you to enter Thailand, ONCE, for 90 days. A multiple entry visa is good for 12 months, and allows you to enter Thailand as many times as you want, HOWEVER, each entry only allows you to stay for 90 days. Different consulates have different requirements before they can sell this visa to you; in Savannaket and HCMC, the multiple entry Non-O visa DOES NOT require proof of funds.

The extension of stay based on supporting a Thai spouse, on the other hand, is purchased inside Thailand. This requires showing the Thai government that you make either 40K THB a month, OR you have 400K THB in savings, seasoned for two months. With this extension of stay, you can stay in Thailand for one year, and you report to immigration every 90 days to let them know where you live. If you want to leave Thailand, you will have to purchase a re-entry permit.

In all cases, this must be a bona fide marriage between a foreign man and a Thai woman.
