Has the requirement for funds or income for extending a Non-O visa in Thailand changed recently?

Hi, I’m married to a Thai citizen. In the past, I’ve entered Thailand on a 3 month non-immigrant O visa, and then gone to Thai Immigration in Rayong to extend the visa to 12 months. This extension required proof of funds of 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least 3 months prior to the application (or monthly income of at least 40,000 baht). I just want to check that this figure has not changed in the past 2 years.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for extending a Non-O visa in Thailand remains unchanged at 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account or a monthly income of 40,000 baht. Most immigration offices, including Rayong, require that the funds must be seasoned in the account for a minimum of 2 months prior to the application. Some offices may only accept the income option if the job is based in Thailand.

I think it’s two months prior and yes 400,000

Sounds like you are describing a Non-O marriage visa. Yes, still the same now.

Rayong ist definitely two

months.

The 400,000 baht must be seasoned 2 months before you apply for your extension. Most immigration offices will only accept the monthly income of 40,000 baht if you are working inside Thailand. It is best to ask your local immigration office what they will accept

Rob Hua Hin So the 400,000 balance does not have to be from an international transfer correct?.

@Charles *******
no, but has to be in your bank two months before the extension day, and it is recommended to leave it there during your under consideration period. When you go back to get your stamp for the remaining 11 months, you can if you want take all of the money out, as long as the 400k is back in two months before the next yearly extension. Hope this makes sense to you.

you are welcome 🙏

2 months is my understanding

Normally it’s two months prior to the application, Rayong is probably then just a bit more strict.

It's still 400,000 or proof of 40,000 monthly income. Many immigration offices have started only accepting the 40,000 if it's from a job you hold in Thailand though, so beware of you use that method and had previously been doing international transfers to show the income.

I thought that you specifically cannot use income earned in Thailand, needs to be coming from overseas, pension etc.? Please tell me if this has changed?

@Alistair ********
you've always been able to use your salary for a job in Thailand as income for marriage visa. Obviously you cannot do that with retirement since you cannot work on that visa.

I know this as I was on marriage visa before but wasn't working, my income was from UK which was accepted, 2018 so don't know If the rules have changed

so my monthly income from abroad would not be sufficient?

you'll need to check with your immigration office on that. Some have stopped allowing it if you are using monthly transfers. If you're using embassy certified income it would be fine. But the only ones who can answer for sure is your immigration office.
