Hey everyone! I recently met with a friend that said he'd gotten a Non-O Family visa based on his marriage to a Thai person (different from the marriage visa where you have to show 400K in a Thai bank account.) I'm currently trying to figure out my next visa and have just gotten married to a Thai woman myself.

I've done some searches in the group already about Non-O Family visas (marriage to a Thai or children), but just want to make sure I have my facts straight. Is it possible for me to get a Non-O, one-year family visa based on my marriage to a Thai woman without having to show 400k in a Thai bank account?

I know this question is probably asked a lot, but I would really appreciate if someone could tell me first hand. Thank you in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-O Family visa is available for foreigners married to Thai citizens, potentially without the usual requirement of 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account. This visa may allow for stays of 90 days per entry and typically requires proof of funds in the applicant's home country account, though specific requirements can vary by embassy. Some options may involve border bounces to extend the stay. It's advised to check with the relevant Thai consulate or embassy for the most accurate and updated information regarding visa options and requirements.

A friend of mine is here on a visa as guardian of his daughter, not sure what it’s called, but he has to show 400,000 each renewal same as my marriage visa, but he only has to have it in his bank account on the day he gets it renewed.

Hi, I'm also married to a thai but If a foreigner man married to a thai woman it requires you to have a bank statement but if you married to a thai Man doesn't require any bank statement at all.

back in 2003 a Thai women married to a foreigner could not own land.

Dave Spurling that is totally wrong, my wife and I were married in 1988 and still together, she owns a lot of land around Thailand in her name, and a lot of it was purchased way before 2003.

as I posted above the Law Changed, to allow Thai Women marrued to foringers to buy land in March 1999. Hua Hin Land Officr forbade my wife owing land in her name around that time and while I don't remember the exact date she bought after the 97 crash.

If you say your wife was allowed to buy before 1999 in her Foriegn Married name wonderful but as posted above the law did not allow it until 1999. Have a great day.

she never changed her name when we got married in 1988, even both our children who are married now even have their original names. Yes she was buying and selling properties back then, as we have continued to do here and in Australia where her and our kids have citizenship too, but in their birth names. Ok you have a nice day too👍

not changing names is a good thing . . My wife took my name in 74 as we knew when my assigment was up we were going to be reassigned State Side.

She passed and I have remained and I suggested my bride keep her Family Name and she know understand why.

married in 1974 to a Thai my wife bought her first land around 1998 and the Land Office was not allowing the transfer so we formed a company. Next land acquired in 2003 no problem. From memory so Labd Office implementation the new policies quicker and som4 fought it,

It is only since the Ministry of Interior regulation (Letter Mor. Thor 0710/Wor. 792 dated March 23, 1999) that a Thai national married to a foreigner is allowed to legally acquire land and following the prescribed procedure is allowed to register ownership of land.

my wife has been buying and selling land, as I said since we were married, without any problems whatsoever and that was in numerous provinces around the country, and we still continue to do so.

yes there is and it’s available only at some Thai embassies abroad. I know the Netherlands has it. 1 year based on marriage. No need to show 400k in Thai bank account but you will need to show some funds in your home country account. Not that much. 90 day stays. In my opinion an excellent option. far less paperwork than if you do it in country

He could have potentially been talking about 2 different things.

One is the "visiting Thai family" extension which is a 60 day extension you can do as a tourist or if you have a non-O visa. This doesn't require money but it's only something you can do once for a visa. For example if you have a tourist visa and get 60 days then apply for the 30 day tourist extension, then apply for the 60 day visiting Thai family extension. Then unless you plan on applying for the non-O visa and having to show money, that would be the maximum. 60+30+60.

There's also a 1 year multiple entry non-O based on marriage to a Thai that you can apply for at the Thai consulate at Savannakhet Laos. This visa requires no proof of funds BUT you only receive permission to stay in Thailand for 90 days each time you enter. So you would have to do a border bounce every 90 days.

With this method you can get approximately 17 months in Thailand without proof of funds, but you're going to be doing a lot of border bounces.

If you leave and re-enter just before your 12 month visa expires you'll get a final 90 days and then you can apply for the 60 day visiting Thai family extension (you can only use this once during the entire life of this visa).

So that would be 90+90+90+88ish+90+60.
