Recent discussions among expats in Thailand reveal various concerns and updates regarding visa amnesty and immigration requirements. Many users expressed frustrations over last-minute changes in policies that affect their residency, financial investments in visas, and reporting obligations such as the TM 47 (90-day report). While some expats are seeking clarity on the future of extensions for NON-O visas, others have shared personal experiences about dealing with immigration and the impacts of global travel restrictions due to COVID-19. There's a mix of sentiments, from relief at living in Thailand to anxieties about potential fines and restrictions.

I donāt understand how do you get stuck Most other countries do send an email stating the status of Immigration They also mention weather you should plan to go back your home country.
I receive a message from the USA embassy
I donāt understand the problem that overstayers put their self in itās their fault they didnāt listen
Examples include being unable to afford the high airfares for a big family. Mixed nationality couples who cannot return home together. People who genuinely feel safer here than at home. For Australians it can be impossible to go home because of government restrictions on numbers entering and quarantine facilities cannot cope. There's many other reasons as well, read some of the articles about why people are stuck overseas at the moment. I'm not stuck, I'm working but I know many people who are genuinely stuck. Some have had multiple flights cancelled and cannot even get their money back. Your attitude is somewhat ignorant as well as lacking in empathy.
Well Dave thatās all good but when I was there on my retirement visa I received a message from the US embassy on January 23 stated there is a virus in China make arrangements to come back to USA.
I donāt know about you or others but I do try to be prepared
But I guest most donāt look at that way.
Letās not forget my wife is in Thailand and Iām here in USA.

Yes same for Australia but as it turns out it is much safer here than back at home anyway so that wasn't very good advice was it? Surely much smarter to let people stay in place rather than travel around internationally if there's such a high contagion risk? The advice was for tourists to return home, not for those with a reason to stay like work and family.
surely the vast majority can apply for a long term visa if they plan to work or study visa, buy an elite visa if they are so rich they don't need to work, or return home (as most tourists would have done several months ago at the end of their holiday anyway)? i'm not saying there aren't some with unique circumstances that are literally trapped here (that's another matter), but the problem is many of those who aren't trapped will assume they can just stick around and wait for another extension because immigration keeps extending.
āsurelyā is hypothetical and the opposite of reality. If they are wealthy enough to afford Thai elite / ok. But surely you have noticed that despite their 1 MILLION BAHT investment.. they are not permitted to enter the country. Does that sound smart to you? It it does / ur an idiot. People clearly do not wish to go home. This is the reality of āfreedomā. Maybe not part of whatever your nation is, but itās how the world works. And if thai immigration itself does not offer clear options to exit amnesty, they are abetting the existence on agents and people are understandably nervous. But you should know all this already
Thai immigration has made a lot of adjustments to allow people to extend or apply for new education or business visas in-country that could previously only be obtained at Thai embassies abroad. I agree 100% with you they could be clearer about the new rules but it can be done if the applicant uses some initiative to reach out to immigration and explain their situation. Thai immigration are amazingly flexible if you have a genuine case (I twice had long overstays forgiven pre-covid but obviously I had to spend some time there explaining everything and showing all the evidence). As for freedom here compared to other countries, I don't think many countries allow people who have overstayed visas to stay indefinitely without visas nor make it as easy to stay as literally paying $13k for a 5-year visa regardless of what country you come from or what you do.
all countries have similar situations in place now to facilitate transitions during pandemic. And as it appears today - they have finally realized this. And there will be at least a 60 day extension for the thousands on amnesty. Anything less is a failure man

Why not have a 6 month extension for all non O visa's with half the requirement a a 1 year extension i am sure this could help things for now ...

What about the TM 47 (90 days report ) I didnāt do it before 26th September then with this mean I donāt need do it until 31 October?
You needed to do 90 day report before the 1st of September. Go in there as soon as you can and just play dumb. They may fine you 500 Baht, but itās better to deal with it sooner than later.
