There have been rumors circulating that the border will be locked down on the 8th and that vaccine passports will be required again.

We have made plans to obtain our student visas at the embassy in Malaysia on the 12th, and have already spent a significant amount of money on deposits, rent, furniture, and appliances, as well as prepaid for the entire school year.

With these potential changes, we are concerned about potentially losing all of these expenses. It is frustrating that decisions like this are being made without advance notice, as it makes it difficult for individuals to plan and organize their lives accordingly.

 The guy you need to talk to is Dr Chakrarat Pittayawonganon. Apparently he's some big noise in the health department and he wants mandatory vaccine passport for ALL arrivals, and enhanced checks on arrivals from China. It's all pie in the sky at this time, as the heads don't get together until tomorrow to discuss the strategy. Let's just wait and see, and hope they don't bring back quarantine and friggin' sandboxes!

letā€™s be serious I think what people are referring to are additional requirements for entry into Thailand from China. Fact this is being discussed by Thai government and there is a meeting planned for tomorrow. We donā€™t yet what these requirements will be but insurance, proof of vaccination and testing have all been mentioned. We will see. These are not rumors and you should stop spreading such nonsense

 The OP was concerned about a border lock down, and I pointed out the ONLY rumour doing the rounds was the speculation that covid vaccine certificates might be needed to enter.  there was an article in the Bangkok Post saying it was being reconsidered and the meeting taking place tomorrow will decide what they're going to do. As others pointed out, the previous covid requirements were lifted in July 2022 and has nothing to do with tomorrow's meeting.

Regardless of rumors, follow the entry instructions as directed and you will be fine.

They will not "lockdown" again but may require proof of vax or maybe an entry test.

 Alcohol ban from 9pm tonight, unless the establishment sells food then it will be 10pm. Only one person per table and no more than 75% of the total capacity of the restaurant. No live music unless performers are wearing a full face shield. Soapy massage after 9pm banned, gyms and parks to be closed. Hair salons closed. Other than that everything normal

I for one hope they will tighten up the entry measures again with regard to health screening. At least for travelers from China - like most western countries currently do. I am bit concerned with the flood-gates being open like this. But nothing to worry about: A lock-down of borders or something like that is not gonna happen. On a second note: In your case, I would be more concerned about current issues with issuing ED visa.

 I do not know the exact details. But rumors have it, that they stopped issuing ED visa for the time being (at least for in-country change of visa) due to Chinese controlled language schools having abused the ED visa system. But maybe someone else can give more details on this.

This is laughable. No other country is locking down, they have slight requirements on Chinese flights, that's it. Thailand isn't gonna be any different.

There's 1000s of articles with government officials being quoted on topics of growing tourism and economic recovery, there's zero on a so called "lockdown".

The only verifiable information will be on the 5th after the government meeting to discuss the issue. Anything you read before that is pure guess and rumors and the media loves to write clickbait articles that have no basis in reality.

As far as being notified ahead of time, you might as well give up on that notion. The government never announces anything until 1-2 days before it's supposed to take place, sometimes even waiting until the day of. This was a constant issue during covid when they wouldn't announce if they were going to continue allowing covid extensions until the day the previous program expired.

But again, during covid the media would release endless articles about what the government was going to put into place at their next meeting, and many times the reality looked nothing like the media was claiming beforehand.

As you state currently these are rumours. There is no official statement or anything to back them up. There is supposed to be a meeting on the 5th by the powers that be who will determine if any rules change. No one will know until after that meeting what the outcome may be. It may affect your travel plans it may not.

I guess you jabbed, so youā€™ve nothing to worry about, as the vaccine is working wonders around the world, and nobody is feeling the effects of it. As for Ebola, well, that could be another story, a good excuse for the WHO to insist on further lockdowns maybe, who knows !!

 just press speculation. Nothing official backs that up. They could say that only those people with blue hair may enter - or those wearing yellow shoes. No one will be able to confirm or deny any restrictions until the outcome of that meeting is known. Watch these Facebook forums closely. Any news coming out of the meeting will be seen here way before any embassy updates their websites.

 my vaccine expired like 15 months ago or so and i dont plan on renewing it, with this info in advance i wouldve sold all our things, not paid the school already and prepared our departure.

Now with 3 days left until we go to malaysia, none of that can be done anymore

 Even when they had a requirement for a vax certificate there was never any date requirement just that youā€™d had them. Canā€™t see that being any different even if they were to bring that specific requirement back. But again thatā€™s just me hypothesising. My guess is as good as everyone elseā€™s. Could be right. Could be wrong.
