TLDR : Answer Summary
There are ongoing discussions and rumors regarding potential changes to student visa policies for Chinese nationals in Thailand due to the appointment of a new head of immigration. Some commenters mention that current applicants from China and India are already experiencing delays and increased scrutiny, but others emphasize that rumors persist without official confirmation. While some believe increased application volumes may be causing delays, there appears to be no confirmed policy changes from the immigration office so far.

Like what Robert says it's jus rumours. Why this come about is because I approach an agent say and they say they don't process Ed for my partner Chinese national as will kenna rejected.

I knew that chinese nationals were being sent back to china to get their ED visas AND that the immigration office was looking at their attendance and documentation closer when giving extensions but AFAIK, there is NO policy change in the way immigration's inside the country treats them

AND

I doubt the new head of immigration's has anything to do with the issuing of visas from the thai consulates scattered around the world seeing as they are run NOT by the thai immigration office but by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs <- a totally different government agency altogether.

I did not specifically ask if the delay is due to a policy change, and it is more likely due to an increase the shear volume of applicants from these to countries which is more likely causing the backup.

Always nice to hear bar talk. As you said rumours, keep on talking. We wait for official announcements of Immigration Office.

This came to me from the I/O at DMCW two days ago, but I did not ask if any memo would be issued...
Robert ********
Chinese and Indian nationals applying for the Thai Elite visa are now being told to wait for at least 90 days before approval.

My first comment was aimed at those applying for ED visas ;-)

which unfortunately has nothing at all to do with people on ED visas or extensions :O

It has already started, both Chinese and Indian students are affected.
