TLDR : Answer Summary
To secure a tourist visa for Thailand from the USA, you should visit the Thai embassy's official website or the e-visa portal at https://thaievisa.go.th/. For stays under 30 days, you may not need a visa; you can extend your stay an additional 30 days in Thailand. If planning to stay longer than 30 days, you must apply for a 60-day tourist visa, which is also extendable. Additionally, ensure compliance with any specific entry requirements such as health insurance or bank account statements by checking with the local embassy.

the OP as an American is not eligible for VOA and should use the following site to apply for a 60-day tourist visa, or he can arrive in Thailand visa-exempt for a 30 day stay (extendable for another 30 days).

If you trip is less than 30days, no need for visa. And you can extend for another 30 days in Thailand.

But if you plan to stay longer than that Tourist visa for 60 days plus you can extend 30 days in Thailand.

The Thai Embassy/Consulate that serves your Country.

The best place to look would be the Thai embassy in your country, or the one you are directed to use for your country, and their e-visa link.
