I want to go to Thailand for 88 days with my Thai wife what documents do I need?
Answer summary
To travel to Thailand for 88 days with your Thai wife, you have several visa options. The most recommended is the 90-day Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen, which requires your passport, marriage certificate, proof of financial means (either 400,000 THB in a bank account or monthly income of 40,000 THB), and possibly additional documents like hotel bookings. An alternative is to enter on a 60-day tourist visa and apply for a 30-day extension within Thailand. Ensure all required documents, such as bank statements and proof of residence, are prepared for the visa application.

60days visa exempt atm and extend for 30 day for 1900 baht. Depends when going and when going bsck to 30days

When the visa-exemption goes from 60 to 30 days by August (the publication in the Royal Gazette is about to come very soon!) you won't have any "15 days grace period" unless your entry into Thailand is within the 15 days of the publication.

I do not think you will be able to meet that timeline until your planned departure on September 14th.

Whatever comes first, you can get a 60-days "visit family" extension of Immigration for 1900 THB (but only if your marriage is already registered inside Thailand).

The BIG problem when flying and going to enter visa-exempt could be the airline. They might want to see an onward flight ticket out of Thailand within the period of time you get stamped in when entering visa-exempt.

This would require you to buy a cheap one-way ticket for example from Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur that you will throw away.

Be CAREFUL, do not try to prove the onward travel with one of these cheap fake "onwardtickets". If Thai Immigration finds out, they will deny entry because for them it is attempted fraud.

*** The BEST visa option is the 90-days single entry Non-Imm-O Retirement OR Family Visa. It would give you 90-days of admitted stay permit. No need for any onward travel proof for the airline and no need to visit Immigration.

*** If you fulfill the financial requirements for the Non-Imm-O visa types, apply for it through the online E-Visa system of the Thai embassy or consulate in the USA

A passport and likely a non-O marriage visa, because the government just shortened the visa waiver to 30 days plus a 30 day extension and one boarder bounce. You could potentially get your 88 days in that way, I suppose.

I’m sure there is a visiting family option on the 90 day non o visa. You’ll have to check the requirements though. Another option, which is still available but may change, is to get a 60 day visa exemption on arrival and extend by another 30 days for I think 1900 bht. Just be aware that at some point the visa exemption will be reduced to 30 days.

Ide just get a tourist visa for 30quid as that gives you like 3 months here and you can always extend it by another 30 days if you need. You will likely get less scrutiny at immigration with any kind of visa over the visa exemption route. Also, they just switched many countries from 60 days back to 30 days (happened yesterday/this week) so double check that also if you plan to enter visa exempt. Tourist visa can be acquired online and comes through via email after a few days with minimal hassle. Wishing you the best of luck

If you’re going to Thailand with your Thailand wife, all you need is a passport because you’re allowed to stay up to 90 days so you go there you do 60 days first and then you do an extension in front of the 30 right now they’re still giving us 60 days tour visa for Thailand. I know they’re gonna change it soon but when they do change it you still have a 15 day grace period.

I did the 90 day visa last year. I was going for 4 months. When I went into immigration to get the one month extension, they told me my wife needs to be there to sign. I informed them she was still in Canada 🇨🇦. They said. No wife No extension.🤔😞

I then asked to two ladies in immigration what about if I go back into Cha Am find a Thai lady and marry her. Would that work. I had my “ poker face “ on.

They were looking at each other trying to figure out what to say. It took a couple minutes before they realized I wasn’t serious 😳😳😳😂😂😂😜🤪

If you're gonna be in and out before the 90 day point id go for a 60 day tourist visa then extend by 30 while in country. If you think there is a chance you may stay longer you could go for the 90 day non O. Its got more requirements to meet to get it but at least that way you can extend that to a year long visa if you decide you want to stay or come back much more frequently throughout the year.

1. A 90 day Non-O visa based on being married to a Thai

2. A 90 day Non-O visa based on being 50 or older

You can apply for a Non-Immigrant O Visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen, which will grant you an initial 90-day stay per entry. This perfectly covers your 88-day trip.

While many people use this visa as a stepping stone to apply for a one-year extension inside the country, it is completely valid to use a Single-Entry Non-O visa just for a short family visit.

Arthur Williams I stay every year for around 70 days. I get the 60 day Single Entry Tourist Visa (eVisa) and then extend 30 days in Thailand through an agent (4000-6000 baht). They say allow 15 days, but can take a month, sometimes quite quick. The extension apply for about 2 weeks before the eVisa expires.

For the eVisa you need digital copies of your passport, Driver's License or other proof of residence in your country, bank statements, a passport size photo, flight info and at least one place (hotel/condo/etc) you are staying (or plan to stay).

I also include a letter stating I plan to get the extension and as I have been before, I include copy of extension stamp from previous trip. For extension you may need copy of Thai TM30 which is provided by place you are staying (Sometimes can be hard to get, which agent can help with).

I'm pretty sure you can apply as husband and wife (family) - I only apply as myself.

Arthur Williams if your marriage is registered inside Thailand, you can enter visa-exempt. Regardless if you would still get 60 days or if it will be 30 days by September, you can get a 30-days extension on top of it on Immigration for 1900 Baht. In case you only get 30 days visa-exempt, get a printout of the marriage registry Kor Ror 2 or 22 (whichever applies) from the local Amphur, and visit Immigration together with your wife. She must have her blue housebook and Thai ID card or passport, and apply for the 60-days extension based on "visit Thai family". The ONLY downside when flying without a visa could be the airline. They might want to see an onward flight ticket out of Thailand within the period of time you get stamped in when entering visa-exempt. Arthur Williams Actually, not much has changed from the years before, the only change being that the multi entry 1-year family visa got discontinued by October 2023. In order to apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa, you need to fulfill the financial requirement. Which is either the equivalent of 400,000 THB in your home bank account, proven with 3 months of account statements, or your original income documentation confirming you earn a minimum of equivalent of 40,000 THB every month. And proof of three months of that income hitting your bank account. AND you need proof of a hotel booking or proof of adress plus housebook if you live privately in Thailand. You need a BIOMETRIC passport picture. You need your passport. You need your marriage certificate(s). You need proof of your residence before you can apply in that respective country.
