TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks advice on obtaining a visa for traveling to Thailand for the first time as a UK passport holder. Several commenters suggest checking the Thai Embassy website in London for the latest visa requirements and confirm that a visa should be obtained before booking flights. Discussions include the financial requirements, including proof of funds in the bank, and the importance of knowing current travel restrictions due to COVID-19. Various visa options like the standard tourist visa and experiences with the process are mentioned, emphasizing that conditions may be changing frequently.

If you are willing to quaratnine for 15 nights at your own cost are you still willing too? Although it's amazing, quite empty, maybe even a bit cheaper now in my experience and covid free(very few cases) once youre free
Sheen ************
Is this a joke post??
Sudhir *********
Ha ha ha ! Not advisable to spend much more amount for Bangkok. Some other countries are better and cheaper than Bangkok.
Wojciech ***********
Forget it atm
Shaun *********
@Wojciech **********
why forget it?
Wojciech ***********
@Shaun ********
well if you like to spend 5000 pound extra and stay in a posh prison for two weeks go ahead
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
posh prision 😂😂😂
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
Thailand is double to triple of Europe Living the same standard
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
i stayed in a
***
star hotel with my bf for 17k baht a month, so 250 each. In a HOTEL on beach!!! It was a loft, with livingroom also not just a standard room
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
try to buy a convertible car, a cheap BMW Z4 is 350% its 40k Eur in Germany, 130k Eur in Thailand, a 1000$ Coffe machine is 4500$
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
also if you read my comment above, I was referring to people who wants to stay in Thailand for a longer time, not living there and buying BMW's and coffee machines. Those people will probably live in hotels cheaper than Europe, rent a motorbike or get way cheaper taxis, eating out way cheaper. Called tourism not moving. You rarley move to Thailand on a tourist visa. Nothing cheap about being a tourist in Thailand either.
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
well that's imported stuff that's why, stay local instead
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
try to buy a local piano or saxophone doesn't exist
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
anyways in Thailand i prefer going out than staying in, restaurants, museums, bars, parties, islands, beaches, hotels. Not looking for a fancy home in Thailand
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
I don't party but a good restaurant in Bangkok is same as New York these days
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
nah i went to really good ones in Bangkok not so expensive, but if you for fine dining then yes of course... That's everywhere expensive. I worked in fine dinings too.
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
you're talking about something I didn't bring up as discussion but since you're on it I'm asking then why you choose thailand? I live half and half Europe and thailand so don't need those fancy stuff, I always like to drink my coffe outside anyways or I love making Turkish/arabic coffe at home. Don't need a piano or saxophone, I'm a painter not musician but everyone's diffrent. Don't need a BMW either, I got a moped in BKK and the island, quicker, I prefer it too. Its hot anyways. Or I take a taxi that's so cheap compared to London or Ibiza.
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
you can't buy good weather in Germany. I am an ethical hacker but play drums, guitar, sax,piano and love bikes and cars
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
i understand. Depends what lifestyle you're looking for in Thailand. I love it because for me it's cheap and good weather, all the standard stuff I get from Europe.
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
i live in Spain too it's good weather
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
but sure Red Oven would be 300% in Germany but as said try to buy a Mustang here, cheap 50k usd muscle car it's just 190k usd
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
i don't need to buy a Mustang, you have expensive requirements xD in Thailand for the weather but like imported stuff, not choosing Spain because is to cold water. I dislike how hot Thailand can get especially Spring! I appreciate a bit of European spring for a while, at the coldest
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
Europe ist furchtbar zum Leben aus Estland im Sommer oder Lithuania
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
also it's way to hot water during spring time :) I couldn't swim, is just hot, suppose to be fresh
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
in August & september it's 26, July 24 degrees
Wojciech ***********
32 degree water
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
30 degree water temperature where in Spain?
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
Europe is a cultures and sophisticated place, not exactly Thailand, just got the heat
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
and you can have a lot better life in Thailand if you can afford it
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
you really like hot hot temperature then. That costs you millions. Thailand has low tide during some of the year, Spain never does.
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
ever dived under 30 it's freezing
Wojciech ***********
Did you go to el gaucho, a good steak is 3k
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
same here just 300% of Europe cost
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
why did u choose to live in Thailand then if it's so expensive
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
hey i was referring to tourism not permament term
Rima ****************
@Wojciech **********
it's way cheaper in Thailand than Europe... Especially now I was there February to July, it dropped so much because of covid.
Wojciech ***********
@Rima ***************
Hifi equipment same, a good saxophone same etc pp. Yes for cheap people it's cheap, for sophisticated people crazy expensive. my last 10 month where 2.5mil baht
Shaun *********
@Wojciech **********
it’s not that expensive, flights are the same as normal and some even cheaper

The hotels are more expensive but they are feeding you 3 meals a day for 15 days and also covers things like nurses and Covid test
Rima ****************
@Shaun ********
insurance + hotel is what's expensive or extra cost yes, rest is same like flights, but if you're staying for a longer time, since Thailand is cheaper than like Europe, can be worth it
David *********
You can screen shot your proposed flight and use that for the application
Daniel ******
+ the money in your account as stated and only 60 day + 30 extension... joke
Daniel ******
Cost you £2600 to get over there at the minute from the UK and have to prove £12,500 in your account every month for the last 6 months.

Basically, if you have money Covid doesn’t exist, tell them to fuck off and everyone boycot Thailand until they stop all this nonsense and just open as normal
Nick *******
if you weren't, please do so and apply again in 6 months lol
Daniel ******
@Nick ******
hahaha Convid won’t bother you if you have 10,000,000 bht to invest into our economy
Rima ****************
@Daniel *****
just apply for medical visa then and you can do home quaratnine, costs 125k baht though
Nick *******
@Daniel *****
but if you have 9m to invest here you can 'do one' (I don't have, but in theory that would happen.

My 2m condo purchase was no help whatsoever)
Nick *******
@Daniel *****
even if you do have money, they only want you if you were stupid enough to keep £12,500 sitting depreciating value in a current account for a full 6 months
Wylie *******
@Nick ******
there is absolutely nothing in the requirements that says the money needs to be sitting and depreciating. I've seen others say they were successful using an investment account, as long as it is accessible. I applied for one using a non retirement brokerage account. I just talked with the consulate yesterday and the only question they had was on my covid insurance. After I cleared that up they told me to send in my passport and hard copies.
Nick *******
@Wylie ******
good to know. Thanks. They might want to clarify that in the requirements they state, because when I read them I was left feeling pretty sure they wanted 6 months of consecutive bank statements showing balance of >£12,500, and just naturally assumed they were focused on proof of already liquid cash cushions, with total wealth irrelevant if it's invested.
Wylie *******
@Nick ******
a lot of people seem to be confused by that, although I'm not really sure why people interpret "bank statements" as meaning it has to be a savings account. Perhaps there is a slight difference in the meaning here in the US.
Nick *******
@Wylie ******
hoping not to need to exit, reenter, but it is a big relief to discover that hurdle isn't actually a hurdle for me (blessed, some are not so fortunate). Thanks again
Wylie *******
@Nick ******
that's my biggest concern too. I'll have 3 months for something to change. I will not pay for the quarantine a second time. Hoping that they open some sort of travel with at least one neighboring country to do a border bounce or something.
Nick *******
@Wylie ******
perhaps. Or as we say on our side of the pond: assumption is the mother of all f-ups. My investment portfolio would not be described by anyone as a bank statement though. They are not a registered bank as far as I know.
Wylie *******
@Nick ******
😄 I understand. Although I have never cared for that or the statement "If you assume, you make and ass out of u and me". Even the people that say those phrases make dozens if not more assumptions every day. I made the assumption that the reason for that requirement was to show you had access to the money. Why would anyone care where it was as long as it was theirs and it was readily available? My brokerage account has an debit card that I can get money from in as fast as it takes me to find and atm.
Daniel ******
@Nick ******
correct mate, I’ve proven the funds and eligible to go, but refuse to pay and jump through these daft hoops as should everyone else be, if everyone just refuses to play along, there’s no choice but to just open
Rima ****************
@Daniel *****
problem is if they do there will be covid and they won't let parties etc be on, and a normal life.
Dave *********
Visa first..

To check if your eligable.. then be prepared to jump through hoops of fire
Bruce *****
Check the embassy website don’t book anything until at least april

, money wasn't the issue, the problem for me is, my girlfriend holds a Belarusian passport. We were apart for almost 9-months this year and don't wish to go through anything like that again, but thank you for your input.
Rima ****************
@Steve ******
I'm in the same situation as you, idk if it's true but I read that they are making tourist visas for everyone now without bank statement needed.
Steve *******
@Rima ***************
, sadly Belarusian passports are one of the worst in the world for gaining access, even though we have already been to Thailand together
Rima ****************
@Steve ******
that's strange how come
Rima ****************
@Steve ******
ohh where is she now?
Steve *******
She can stay maximum 90-days in Europe under Schengen visa rules, hence us travelling to Asia for six months each winter
Rima ****************
@Steve ******
my bf been 5 months in Thailand apart, I know exactly what you mean, going back now next week though, then when I'm freed from the quarantine, it will be almost 6 months (minus a week)
Steve *******
@Rima ***************
, be happy and enjoy. Sadly I can't marry Olya as I am still married to wife #2. Yes, yes, she knows about my Belarusian princess. We are 100% open.
Steve *******
@Rima ***************
, we are on Warsaw, Poland

@Steve ******

@Shane *********
, good for you. I currently don't fit into any category of British passport holders allowed to enter. That said, I check for changes every day.

Rima ****************
@Michael *******
yes is simpler than people think it is! But if u are well off & a bit lazy, i guess u can pay an agency
Daniel ******
@Michael *******
you still have to pay your 2 week quarantine and respiratory flight regardless, 15-20% agent fee is standard
Michael ********
@Daniel *****
been there done it came in July i know all cost just seems an uneccasary cost to use an agent
Daniel ******
@Michael *******
you’ve got a Thai partner? It’s actually not that simple right now from the Uk but good for you fella
Rima ****************
@Daniel *****
isn't it same process everywhere?
Shaun *********
@Daniel *****
a lot of that is fees to an agent isn’t it?
Daniel ******
@Shaun ********
yeh about 450£
Dianne *****
@Daniel *****
you don't need to use an agent though, all those services can be done by yourself. This is just for people who need hand holding through the process and don't mind to pay for that
Daniel ******
@Dianne ****
I don’t need my hand held thanks love and I’m not bothered about the services it’s the 2 grand ontop of the services for 2 weeks up bullshit I refuse to pay, but thanks for popping in with your insults like every other Einstein in this group
Shaun *********
@Daniel *****
the flights are not much more than normal the hotel are not cheap but you are also getting 3 meals a day for that and Covid test
