I am a cyprus citizen traveling to Thailand next month. I would like to stay longer than 30 days but having trouble deciphering which visa I need and how to obtain that visa. Can I extend the 30 day exemption visa? How can I stay for 25 - 30 days as a tourist?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Cyprus citizen can enter Thailand on a visa exemption for 30 days, which is extendable for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office. Alternatively, they can acquire a tourist visa from a Thai embassy before traveling, which allows for a 60-day stay and is also extendable. However, it is important to note that Cyprus citizens are also eligible for a visa on arrival for 15 days, but this visa cannot be extended.
I'm assuming you're a passport holder from Cyprus. Cyprus is a VISA ON ARRIVAL country, per the attached list. On arrival, you will be granted a visa for 2K THB for 15 days. This visa CAN NOT be extended, and a new visa CAN NOT be acquired inside the country.
You will need to get a 60 day tourist visa before arriving in the country.

You can enter on a visa exempt which would give you 30 days, which you can extend for a further 30 days at a local immigration office. A tourist visa which you could buy at your local Thai embassy would give you 60 days and can also be extended
there is no requirement for a two month limit for funds being in a bank account for a âmarriageâ extension. If youâre able to get a bank account and put funds in and get married then you can apply for that extension.
hmmmmm good point. And I now also see that they will except proof of monthly income not less then 40k. So with this I would not change the visum but I would an extention, of for instance a TV, based on marriage, is that correct?
sorry Iâm not sure what youâre referring to here. A TV is not based on being married. You can convert a TV to a Non O visa in country based on being married providing you have the correct financials (and being married). You canât change from an STV, but you could from a tourist visa or even a visa exempt entry.
check, I had it wrong. Long day today and so much to read;). Lets see if I can get the STV otherwise we might still try to change the TV. Thanks again for your help, appreciated.
ok but Iâd still question the STV. You may find that you have to leave Thailand and come in on another visa once youâve married and have the financials in place. These days thatâs no so easy.
apologies for the earlier post. Without knowing that Cyprus didnât have visa exempt status (as I had assumed) then I gave bad info. Happy to be educated.
no worries:)! This all changes way too fast anyway right. Im working on my STV now from the Netherlands. Fully vaccinated but dont feel like Phuket sandbox and already booked a flight to BKK. Aiming for a quarantine in BKK in whatever way. I dont even know anymore whaha. I dont care that much though, did the 14days. They can lock me up for 7, have to work anyway;).
not sure why you have opted for the STV. itâs a very restrictive visa. It does allow for a fair amount of time in Thailand but thereâs lots of conditions that are prohibitive. You have to have fully paid up accommodation for the entire time (what tourist does that?) and insurance for the whole time (probably a good idea but not sure why mandatory).
it depends on your age. If youâre under 50 your options are limited. If not then as long as you have funds you can get a year visa (extension) to stay for however long you like. Happy to advise the options for your circumstances but might need a bit more info.
thank you for taking the Time Stuart. Im 36 so no retirement for me yet;). Me and my girl are getting married but three months (TV) will be too short to change the visa to a marriage visa. Given that you need a bank account with a lot of money on there for........I thought it was at least 2months. Visa can only be changed until two weeks before the initial ends. So 60 days TV will just be a little to short to do so. If I can even open a bank account. So now trying the STV, emailed the embassy if the contract will be enough (we pay monthly so it might give trouble). Guess Ill otherwise just pay for the 90 days ahead. I do have funds but, not sure how much they ask for the year, we feel its a waste. Rest of the documents I have, medical document is coming. Have my visa appointment in 2.5 weeks so might just decide on what to do last minute. I just want to stay for 6months and spend my hard earned moneyđ
yeah youâre too young for a retirement visa, and because youâre not married you canât go down that route until you are. You have an option of getting an education visa or a volunteer visa which will allow you for longer term stay. However neither of those options are available if you come in on an STV.
Yes I know thanks, its a proper pain but I want to see my gf longer then 3months. Going for my 'medical exam' this week, have a long term rental contract with my name on it. It should work, know people who did it this way. But really, why do they make it so hard. If this fails it will be a loss of money and a TV then. Will look for other options then though not sure which.

You canât change that visa to any other in country. With the regular tourist visa you can.
I need to go to Koh Chang after and domestic flights were cancelled at the time so figured this was the way to go. Maybe the Netherlands will pop up on the new list and I wont have to quarantine at all in a month.......fingers crossed.
yeah no one knows what the rules will be tomorrow. Latest info is that November 1st things will change but at this time itâs just speculation as to what the changes may be. Perhaps no quarantine but we just donât know.

Begs the question as to why a full European member state doesnât have visa exempt status but I donât make the rules.
