What are the steps and requirements for extending a visa in Bangkok as a UK citizen?

***UPDATE: Visa Extension in Bangkok

Went to Muang Thong Thani Immigration centre. You need a passport photo, a copy of your passport, your passport and 1900 THB. You can get pics and copies on the ground floor.

Go to floor 3 (counter K) and make sure you get a ticket. They only give out 300 per day and some people were arguing at the front that they had been waiting for ages but didn't have a ticket so weren't served.

We got there at 11am and got ticket number 164. At at 12 they closed for lunch until 1pm. In total we waited about 3 hours (excluding lunch).

There's a room where you fill out the forms (6 sides in total) and you have to give a reason for needing the extension. The first option mentions 'the ongoing pandemic' so that's what I wrote.

I'm from the UK and couldn't get a tourist visa before I arrived as I wasn't travelling from there, so it was denied as I couldn't provide flight tickets from the UK to Thailand.

Hope that's helpful :)

Just arrived in Thailand on a visa exemption, but I want to extend it so have some questions!

Sorry here's an update on info! I'm from the UK, here to visit but want to stay as long as possible :)

1. Where do I go and what do I need to take? I'm in Bangkok.

2. Is it likely that I'll even get the extension? I heard that it's only for people who can't go home because of covid, but I definitely could if I wanted to.

3. After this extension runs out, if I want to stay in Thailand for longer, how do I go about it? Would I need to leave for Cambodia for a few days and then return on an exemption again?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
This post discusses the experience of a UK citizen attempting to extend their visa in Bangkok. It outlines necessary documents and fees required at the Muang Thong Thani Immigration Centre, such as a passport photo, passport copy, and the application fee of 1900 THB. The user provides insights into ticketing procedures at the immigration office and mentions that waiting times may vary. Additionally, they express concerns about eligibility for the extension, noting that it seems primarily intended for those unable to travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and seeks advice on future options for extending their stay in Thailand.

The last time I got a visa extension in Bangkok (~ June 2022) I went to the usual big government complex but was redirected to some nearby shopping mall. Where is the correct place to go in Bangkok these days?

I know it doesn't help now .... but when you next time decide to come to Thailand with the intention to stay here as a tourist as long as possible ..... be smart and enter Thailand with a 60 days tourist visa ....

Best advice now, go and visit the neighbouring countries which are as beautiful as Thailand and you will get a new visa exemption every time you come back to Thailand.

Why is tourist visa better than visa exemption stamp? You get one more month...?

If you entered on 30 day exemption you can extend for tourism purposes for 30 days for a fee of 1900 bhat. Just say you want to continue your holiday.

Yeah I couldn't because I wasn't in my home country, I was refused a tourist visa because I couldn't provide flight tickets from the UK to Thailand

More background information. There are a multitude of visas, but you need to tell the group what your intention is in Thailand: work, study, long vacation etc. With that information you will get better advice.

Yeah sorry just updated! I'm from the UK and am just here for tourism!

You'll be able to get the standard 30 day extension from the immigration office in the area you are living in. You can't get the Covid extension without doing that first and given as things stand the Covid extension stops this week getting one is unlikely

Ok thanks!

People much smarter than me will answer with good information but the first thing that will come up is “it would help if we knew where you’re from because the rules are different based on your passport.”
