Hello.

I have 2 questions regarding a tourist visa. I plan to quit my job and get a tourist visa for a few months. Cambodia seems to be the most viable option.

1. Has anyone recently managed to get a tourist visa from Phnom Phen successfully? Were there any issues?

1. And my understanding is a tourist visa is for 60 day but can be extended by 30 at the discretion of the immigration officer. Is there any rationale behind this discretion as to why a further days might not be granted?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses inquiries about obtaining a tourist visa for Thailand from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, including experiences of others in the process. It highlights a common understanding that tourist visas are for 60 days with an option for a 30-day extension. Comments clarify that the extension is generally granted unless there are specific disqualifying circumstances. Various experiences and requirements are also shared, including the need for a Thailand Pass and RT-PCR test for entry.

That 30days tourism extension is not discretion by an immigration officer, it is your right to be issued unless there is a clear reason not to. The reason would be definite such as your nationality is one of the countries that is prohibited this extension, you are on illegal activities. You have a right to appeal if you wouldn't be granted this 30days tourism extension without clear reason.

To enter Cambodia you must be FULLY VACCINATED...And show RESULTS of an RT-PCR COVID test taken within 72 hours of flight time to Cambodia

Those not fully vaccinated require 14 days quarantine in a government selected facility at your expense. (Not a pleasant experience per reports).

@James *******
how do they define “fully vaccinated?” Does that include a booster?

Upon arrival into Thailand

Be prepared to answer the question..if asked...

"WHY do you stay so long in Thailand?"

...have 20,000 Thai baht in CASH to show Thai immigration...if asked.

...have a flight ticket departing Thailand within 90 days to show...

...have the confirmed booking of your Test N Go hotel..

....have the confirmed address of your initial planned stay after Test N Go...

We arrived 23 Feb, was at Embassy 24 at 9am (application 9-10 only). Because of the weekend we were asked to return today 28 between 3-4pm.

No problems getting PCR, go to Intercare/Olympic medical, open 7 days and holidays. Test before 9.30am, results same day collect at 5-6pm. Test after 9.30am, results next day 12 noon. Cost is $130. There is a cheaper option at another facility called Pasteur but 3 week waiting list currently at $80.

So 7 days for us total, but you could do it quicker, say if you arrive Sunday, go embassy Monday, collect Wednesday and get last flight out (4 days).

We did 7 days as we have an appointment with UK embassy in Bangkok March 3, so had to fit that in with quarantine considered.

@John ********
did you have any problem in getting the required RT-PCR test to enter Thailand? And what was the cost of it ?

How many days will you have been in Cambodia to get your Thai visa?

@James *******

@John ********

Can I point out that Thai Embassy in Cambodia insist flight out must be within 60 days of arrival, I contacted them by email and then in person at the Embassy. I am trying to gather as much information as possible so I can make a post on our experience.

I have placed the TOPIC of CAMBODIA on your post...CLICK on it and all posts re CAMBODIA will pop up to read ..

Including recent visa runs to the Thai Embassy in Phnomn Penh.

The added 30 days extension to the 60 day tourist visa is usually granted by Thai immigration ...fee is 1,900 Thai baht.
