DTV update on Savannakhet

Application is not accepted due to 500K is not maintained for 6 months.

I double checked before going that it doesn’t require for 6 months

Maybe it’s depends on Officer.

Thanks god I bought the Re-entry before going there. My current ED is still valid & went back into Thailand the same day 😅

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their experience applying for the DTV visa at Savannakhet, where their application was rejected due to not maintaining a required bank balance of 500K THB for six months. This led to a discussion about varying enforcement of financial stability requirements by consulates, particularly the discretion of individual officers. Other users shared their successful applications with different documentation, emphasizing the need for comprehensive financial proof, and discussed nuances like the bank account location. The overall sentiment reflects uncertainty and varied experiences, indicating applicants should verify specific requirements with their chosen consulate.

Does the 500k need to be in a Thai account or could a US bank account work?

it depends on the embassy/consulate . . . . Thai Consulate Frankfurt Germany does not accept it in a foreign account, must be a German account

that's WHY we say look at the Thai Embassy or Consulate website for their requirements for the New DVT visa.

they took my 10,000 baht with all my papers.

Did they take yours too but then hand it back when you went to collect your passport and results?

I emailed Vientiane recently (not Savannakhet, but still Laos...) and they said the most important thing for the financial balance was "credibility and verifiability", and they would ask me to show the balance live on a banking app at the interview, in addition to the regular statements.

By this wording, it seems there is a grey area about whether or not they believe anyone legitimately has that money and it's up to the individual officer's discretion.

they were indeed making people log into their online banking or mobile app and show the balance right then on the spot at Vientiane (at least the other day they were)

OK that explains my financial adventures at the Savannakhet Consulate and why they wanted to see my financial accounts on my tablet...."credibility and verifiability".

BTW had I not had a Laos Sim card I could not have accessed the internet at the window. Be prepared.

yeah they know it's just too easy to photoshop a printed statement.

How did it go for you in the end, accepted or rejected (and if so what reason)?

no go. After they accepted the financials they rejected my medical appointment letter. It mentioned no specific medical issue. No dtv for me.

I was the one who had success at Savannakhet recently. I did NOT show 6 months of a maintained balance. I only provided my latest statement (first page of the statement only). That is so strange and I'm sorry that did not work out for you.

And they said that your balance was the only reason?

yes. That’s the only reason the give. I showed the statement up to May.

I should have shown only the first page haha 😆

No worries, I’ll try another time

Reading your follow up comment - your statement begins in May and ends now? In any case that's 3 months, not 6.

I recommend trying Vientiane or Phnom Penh.

I missed your comments. That’s definitely something to do with my country.

As someone got the DTV there with one month. So I bring 4 moths worth of my statement just in case. My mistake on not taking 6 months

Will try again at another place soon

Ok so there's your answer. Your statement ends in May, which was 3 months ago. They need 6 months worth of statements, but you could probably have placed the 500,000 in there just a week ago. It does not appear one needs to maintain a minimum balance of 500,000 for 6 months, that would be crazy.

It's also possible you were given the run around because you're Burmese sad to say. The fact is, citizens of wealthy nations almost always have it easier.

So you showed your bank balance in May for an application in August, I think this was the "6 months" required

yea probably. but still - its the question if they gave you the real reason you were sent away. if its just nr of months, they could tell you to come back with new statement right away.

As I said, they give the reason. Need to maintain 500K for 6 months. I have not maintained 6 month.

There’s no point in them asking me to come back with a new statement.

Well the proof of 500k and length of time in your account varies greatly amongst the different consulates and embassies.

yeah apparently.

Someone from this group applied there successfully without maintaining the balance.

This decision is solely the officer’s.

long way to go :(, I thought they were one of the more lenient/friendly consulates. The inconsistency part is frustrating, as other places only look the balance statement, so it seems. So is it in writing that it has to be in the bank for that period of time ?

there is no writing in their announcement or website.

So this is solely on the officer. I didn’t want to argue with them.

they just don't accept your application,

Savannakhet is NOT one of those consulates that takes your documents, takes your money and when you come back you have a visa with a giant VOID stamp on it in your passport 😮

so I’m not sure I understood, it’s not a good idea anymore to go apply in Savannakhet ? I was planning to go there in September as it would be easier for me to show only one page of bank statement.

As someone from my family will probably send me that money and I don’t have it yet … what do you think ?

The report in this post is you need 6 months of 500K baht in the bank to get the DTV issued at Savannakhet.

Now whether that's a cut in stone policy, or the O/P caught an officer on a bad day, who can say.

Phnom Penh IS one of those consulates that will let you apply (even if you don't meet the requirements), pay and then put the visa in your passport with a giant VOID stamp 😕 so you not only lose the application fee you now have a visa with a big void stamp on it in your passport too

Successful DTV Visa with spouse - Phnom Penh Cambodia 🇰🇭 🎉

Processing time- Minimum 1 week

Walk-in. No appointment necessary.

Submitted documents

1. Thai Bank Statement - 900k

2. Singapore Bank Statement - 20k

3. Uk Engineering Degree

4. Supporting letter from company director that I can work remotely

5. US Business license

6. Singapore Business license

7. Thai Vehicle Ownership Document and Thai House Rental Contract as supporting documents

8. Marriage Certificate for spouse

9. $400 visa fees per person

Our visas were approved.

Many others front of us were rejected and they refunded visa fees.

Tips: They mainly check 2 things. Financial and work supporting documents.

You need to convince the visa officer that you can work remotely. So, submit as many verified documents as you can.

Submit thai bank statement if possible so that they can confirm with their banks. Otherwise, they may ask for last 6 months statements.

They prefer work category instead of soft power or others.

Best of luck 🤞

I’m only on the first 3 month stay stamp of ED Visa. Hasn’t extended to 1 year.

I have posted about this group.
@Tod ********
said it’s okay to have re-entry permit.

The reason I have re-entry is I can’t come back to Thailand from Border without any valid visa.

But officer really checked my documents for a long time. As they didn’t point, that’s not the issue?
