It was good news and fair news in Savannakhet applying for a soft dtv visa today.

My marriage visa from there 15 months ago expired just in time to get a new dtv visa. Lucky me.

So I booked a medical appointment for a general medical evaluation at a Thai hospital in September. Then I downloaded balance sheets from my brokerage firm in the US well in excess of the minimum required.

It all went great until I got to the window.

The grilling about the financials was intense and I had to return in early afternoon with my tablet and two months of brokerage print outs.

They finally were convinced I was ok and asked if I wanted 3 months or one year like previously.

I was most confused and so were they.

They thought I wanted to renew the old marriage visa. I wanted the five year dtv for medical treatment.

They then deemed my medical appointment inadequate since it mentioned no specific condition. I pleaded that I was yet to learn of my infirmities until the medical exam.

Nope, no good, so if you go that medical route have a pre existing condition.

No dtv for me!

BUT they did sell me a new 12 month multi entry marriage visa for 5,000 baht ,no questions asked, on the basis of my brokerage statements.

No marriage certificate or money in a Thai bank.

So I didn't get what I wanted but still walk away with a year visa. Just 90 day reentries instead of 180.

It could be worse.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual shares their experience applying for a DTV visa in Savannakhet, mentioning the complexities of the financial verification process and inadequate medical documentation leading to the refusal of the DTV visa. However, they successfully obtained a one-year Non-O multi-entry marriage visa instead. Comments highlight concerns regarding financial requirements and the sufficiency of a single medical evaluation for a long-term visa.

I think the most interesting part of this is the ability to show off shore funds for the Non-O based on marriage. The ME Non-O is actually exactly what I need, just I don't like having the funds in Thailand (especially now with the tax on foreign remitted income).

The financials seems to be the most troublesome issue from many reports. Not just in Laos but other places too. If you don't mind could you elaborate what exactly was the issue - i.e. what was the initial set of documents you've tried to use and what did you need the tablet for? Did they ask you to log into your online banking to prove you have money you claim you have?

happy to answer your most relevant question.

I used a brokerage account from the US. Indeed they did have me log into my account. I can't access that account from my phone hence returning with the tablet.

I initially used my personal retirement account balance letter. It had a multi year history but it was inadequate.

I don't think they truly understand financial accounts very well.

is the price for the marriage visa always 5K baht.. or just specific to where you applied? .... Did you pay the same amount last year?
Ellie *******
@Jack ****
, the fee for multiple entry non-o visa has been 5000 baht (or equivalent based on the embassy exchange table) for many years now. Single entry non-immigrant visa fee is 2000 baht or equivalent.

thank you... reading everything for the future application..

he already said that just a general medical appointment without any specific health issue was why the DTV was not approved

Why would you expect a 5 year multiple entry visa on the back of a single medical appointment?

@John ******
it did happen at another Thai Embassy. Was issued the DVT visa with a confirmed appointment with Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok.

Submitted my DTV request this morning. My request is routing through Thai Embassy in Chicago. Fee was $400 USD.

—Copy of Driver’s License for proof of current residence

—Copy of Bank statement with amount, name, and date (must have at least $500K Thb)

—Copy of Doctor’s Appointment from Bangkok Hospital (Thai soft power)

We shall see….fingers crossed 😊

it's unknown as to what extent... but we are seeing added twists to it. Different Thai Embassy or Consulate interpretation of the DVT visa requirements. They now have full discretion of its issue.

Thank you for your helpful report.

Thankfully they granted you the One year Non O multi-entry Visa as Married to Thai.

The sought after DTV visa was not successful for you. I can fully understand their stance and questions about the use of one medical exam appointment to justify getting the 5 year DTV visa.
