Based on your experiences, which embassy near Thailand accepts a 1-month-old bank statement for the 500k requirement?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the acceptance of a one-month-old bank statement for the 500k requirement needed for certain visas near Thailand. Many contributors express skepticism, suggesting that embassies, including those in London and Jakarta, typically require several months of bank statements (3-6) to ensure consistent savings. There are varying opinions on the DTV visa, with concerns about its requirements possibly promoting visa fraud. Participants also debate the sufficiency of having 500k baht in a bank account for living expenses over a long period, questioning the rationale behind the imposed financial requirements.

Too many conspiracy theorists on Thai visas.

This is a load of crap. I presume this is referring to the DTV visa. Why would they want to see 500,000 in a bank account for six months, for a five year visa and if your applying for the soft power visa, which I presume, they won't need to see earnings?

@John *******
because they don't require any earnings/income for the visa and 500k isn't even enough to live for a year with no income. Someone could get a friend or family member to transfer 500k to them to apply for a visa and to transfer it back. 3-6 months shows a consistency of savings. Not requiring any income and allowing someone to show a snapshot one time of an account is fucking terrible and will promote visa fraud which Thailand already has too much of.

500,000 isn't enough to live on in Thailand for a year? FFS., considering 20k to 30k a month is about average salaries in Thailand, even 30k only comes to 360,000 a year and you reckon a farang couldn't live on 500,000 baht per year. All depends on circumstances. When I'm in Thailand I can live on a hell of a lot less than that, mind you I don't pay rent or pay for food when I'm there. Only outgoings I have are beer and petrol for car and motorbike, so it's all relative to the individual.
Neil ******
its a 5 year visa not a 1 year visa. And these people are paying for food and housing.

@Neil *****
it's duration is 5 years total but they don't expect that many to go over the 180 days --- as you become tax resident and will pay amounts of tax remitted to Thailand

@Christopher ************
that’s an asinine expectation. Foreigners here before DTV with assessable income frequently never filed their tax reports. And, a lot of digital nomad types feel they shouldn’t pay taxes when they are in other countries where they are supposed to be paying taxes. If government officials are really not expecting a lot of these DTV holders to utilize more than 180 days a year on this visa, they are getting it very wrong.

@Neil *****
I agree Neil ,but the tax loop is tightening here as it is in every country - we all just need to pay our share that's all
Neil ******

I already do pay to 2 countries the amount I am supposed to pay. I agree with you. Everyone should be paying their taxes and also not engaging in fraud to obtain visas. That’s how it’s supposed to be.

I don’t understand why 6 months of payslips and work contract can’t just suffice. Not many people just have 500k baht sat in their accounts. I earn 90k baht per month which I can prove and would happily pay tax on, but because I don’t have a random 500k baht sat there i don’t qualify for the visa which is pure bs. At my age the only way I can stay long term legally is marriage visa. I can’t do an ED visa because I have to work to earn the said 90k baht per month.

So it’s either a marriage visa or just abuse the tourist visa.

I’m hoping that 500k baht requirement gets reduced or replaced with income evidence.

not everyone can long stay. That is true of Thailand and every other country on the planet. It’s not supposed to be easy. 500k isn’t a lot of money. And it’s less than retirees need to have deposited for only a 1 year visa.

@Neil *****
If you apply for the soft power road to get the visa and you don't have to show any earnings, what you said about borrowing, in the UK about £11,300 from family members, for one who in their right mind would transfer that amount of money into a relatives bank account on the assumption that they'd transfer it straight back after applying for the visa. Another thing, if you don't have to prove income for the soft visa route but have to have the 500,000 baht equivalent in your bank account, that amount of money if you don't have any income source is hardly going to last five years considering cost of living, extension fees and the fact you'd have to do some sort of border run after 360 days. Do the immigration, or Thai Embassies/consulates think people who've borrowed the money can then once they've returned it to whoever finance living in Thailand on sweet fuck all?
Neil ******
@John *******
from what I have seen, nothing for DTV requires a verification of income at all. I don’t think anyone in the Thai government who created, promoted, or is regulating this visa has thought about anything at all. Wouldn’t be the first time. You can go back in this group and look at all the posts of people who don’t meet the requirements and still trying to do these things to do it. If you don’t have 500k in your bank for 6 months, you should probably be at home trying to figure out some better life choices. It’s not a lot of money at all.

@Neil *****
How do you come to the assumption that I don't have the equivalent of 500k? Unlike a lot of expats, but not all, when I'm in Thailand I don't live in a pokey one room, plus wetroom hovel. I stay in a three bedroom, two living room, two kitchen single storey house that has five aircons two metre high perimeter wall with a fifteen foot electronic gate. All paid for by myself over the years. Car & three motorbikes. Plus 9 chihuahuas & a British bulldog. So unlike some of the synical expats that think they run Thailand and consistently ridicule the Thai establishment, which as guests in Thailand, it's none of their business the politics of a country their not even Nationals of. There's a lot of lonely expats in Thailand that need to get a life. Waiting with bated breath now to read all the comments slagging me off 😂😂😂

how many months of bank statement dis you provide?
John ********
@Patrick *******
There seems to be an opinion of all the visa experts that when you apply for the DTV you have to show equivalent of 500k in a bank account for at least six months. Don't know how they know this considering the visa had only been available for a couple of months and I heard differently, that all the Embassies and Consulates are concerned with is that you have these funds in a bank account in your name. Maybe the so called experts are basing their opinion on the likes of 'O' non- immigrant visa extensions for retirement.

Which is two months pre and three months post.

From what I see, 3-6 months of bank statements are the norm, not a 1 month old statement.

@John ******
it technically shouldn’t matter one bit. But each embassy can set their own rules.

@Todd ********
- Agree. Just stating what I have seen.
Rachid *******
@John ******
a few people with approved visa said that it's just 1 month in Jakarta, but it could change soon indeed
John *******
@Rachid ******
I think it varies by embassy (and maybe even by staff member reviewing) 🤪
Jim ********
Loads of people have said they have literally transferred money into an account and produced a statement so I’m guessing it depends on which embassy is processing the visa 🤷‍♂️
Brandon ************
I don't believe any of them do anymore. In fact I expect any that are only asking for 3 months will likely be asking for 6 months soon.

Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
