TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) application process for expats from the Netherlands can be stringent, requiring various documents such as a valid passport, recent photo, proof of address, bank statement showing at least 500,000 baht, as well as several business-related documents including registration from the Chamber of Commerce and contracts. The approval process can take less than two weeks but may involve multiple requests for additional documentation. Experiences shared indicate that requirements can vary significantly between countries, with some countries having less strict documentation requirements. It is advised to have liquid funds readily available for visa renewal or extensions.

Does anyone know if they will actually contact your employer?
Rene ******

no italy but do not tell

My application just got approved in the Netherlands as well, and for me, the Chamber of Commerce registration and a screenshot of my website were sufficient.

@Nick *****
How many months with the 500.000 did you provide?

Stern typical Thai: Vastly different requirements between offices of the very same institution. Good preparation for life in Thailand where people muddle their way through shopping for more favorable conditions amongst offices of the very same institution. Little big bosses in uniforms make their own interpretations - likely cause they have to.
Chris ****
That’s not a lot of documents. First time?

on a visa application online yes. I have been in Thailand on visa on arrival 2 x the past 15 years
Ivan ************
@Chris ***
it is substantially more than other countries consulates have required.
Chris ****
@Ivan ***********
for a comparable visa? No.
Ivan ************
@Chris ***
for the exact same visa from other countries, yes.
Chris ****
@Ivan ***********
name one 5 year multiple entry that has less requirements.
Ivan ************
@Chris ***
a Thai DTV visa from the UK or US consulates.
Chris ****
@Ivan ***********
I’m not following you. I’m saying that the Thai DTV does not require more documents than other countries for a similar visa. And there aren’t many that offer a comparable. What are you saying?
Ivan ************
@Chris ***
I'm saying if you are applying for a Thai DTV from some other consulates, not the Netherlands, they don't require as many documents. Stuff like the chamber of commerce registration and the signed letter stating you can work remotely. Some other consulates don't require that, just proof of the 500k and a contract.

I believe Ivan is saying that the same visa application is a different process depending on the country you are from.

How long did the process take from start to finish? Did you have to provide your flights?

One UK freelancer wrote a letter himself saying he was freelance and the type of work he did.

A US freelancer posted he just had to screenshot some work samples, provide a sample client contract and highlight money being paid into his bank account.

do you know where the freelancer post was, I'd be interested to read it.

sorry I can't remember which group it was in. It was the second post I read about someone getting a DTV and it was in the first 3 days of the Visa being available.

Thx. I really prepared a lot already. I am not a freelancer, I am a business owner (webdesign/IT) and if you agree to my proposal and pay I do the job....

Hopefully I not have to ask my clients for permission to work in Thailand omg. Is your situation different? Just curious ;)

So for the financial requirements, does it have to show that you have 500,000 in the bank right now or per year?
Sabine *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jasmine *****
right now
Andi ***********
@Jasmine *****
right now but immigration can ask for evidence of 500K when you extend/renew your visa.
Sabine *********

dtv is for 5 years
Mika ********
@Sabine ********
correct - you get 180 days arriving - and if you choose to stay longer than this you need to apply for what’s called an “ extension of stay “ for another 180 stay permit - and this is when immigration ( the non airport immigration offices ) will ask for supporting documents Again

You can always just leave and return ( and be stamped in again for another 180 days without needing to show supporting docs )
Declan **********
@Mika *******
although unlikely, I think it's too early to say if immigration at the airport will ask to see the funds or not
Mika ********
@Declan *********
immigration at the airport won’t ask for funds as you have the DTV granted before arriving ( you will already have had to show funding requirements to get it etc )

But if you choose to extend your initial 180 days whilst still in Thailand - for this you need visit a local ( non airport ) immigration and ask for what’s called an extension of stay ( for another 180 days ) and that’s when you will have to show further supporting documents

The Thai official explains everything about the DTV in this interview

************************************************
Pete *******
@Mika *******
nobody knows what Immigration wants when requesting an extension of the DTV because it’s never yet been done. The MFA have nothing to do with Immigration. Immigration sets their own rules, we will have to wait and see what documents are required to obtain the extension of stay.
Ivan ************
@Pete ******
I can't think of any case of immigration at the airport asking for proof of funds for any other visa that requires it. And the MFA has said they won't, but they may do for extensions.

where rules are stricter than in other countries. - how so?

@Anton *******
I was wondering this too. However, I can always sell some stock and put in my bank account, not that hard.
Brandon ************
@Anton *******
it has to be liquid funds
Tim ********
@Brandon ***********
where does it state that?
Travis *******
@Tim *******
states it needs to be in a checking or savings account. If investment accounts applied I think it would be on there.

This is supposed to be emergency money showing if something happens you can cover it out of pocket. If stuffs in investments it can be hard to pull/have penalties.
Brandon ************
@Tim *******
that's how every visa and extension for Thailand works. Don't know where it states it but the experiences of hundreds of people say so.
Jeff *****
Congratulations!!

Congrats. Been following the stressful back and forth you have had with them. Glad it finally worked out!
