As of now, there are indications of a potential visa extension for foreigners in Thailand, awaiting cabinet approval before being finalized in the Royal Gazette. Discussions among expats indicate that the extension may allow applications until September 26. However, there are many uncertainties regarding eligibility and the process, especially for those on tourist or visa-exempt statuses. Several commenters express concerns about the limitations imposed by flight caps and the viability of obtaining emergency letters from embassies. There is a general hope for clarity in upcoming announcements regarding the specific requirements and options for visa applicants.
Simple system.....just say 3 month more extension....then you pay 1900 a month at the airport when you leave or renew visa...they make it like a bloody circus

this does seem an easy solution

If anyone is in bother I know an agent who is very good with 'paperwork' and cheaper than all the others. She can't perform miracles but if anyone can get the job done, she can. Pm me if want to know more. Nothing in this for me btw, just so you know.
I have got bored with thailand..only short trips for me now

It makes sense, but there is such a hysteria here now that I don't know if they will. I mean the the panic over that one asymptotic Egyptian air force officer in Rayong was shocking.
Yes Austin, we will know for sure next week and the exact details. I'm glad with this. it's the first concrete thing I have had to deal with, and it seems a very reasonable policy.
...if it don't open this year its mega cash problems for Thailand.. i would go odds on it opens....october so people can book there holidays

Exactly. The bag packing and bike happens by Sept 26 if you don't sort some kind of long stay visa. The agents will have a field day. So in this case it is a firm ending date to amnesty on Sept. 26.
They can stay until September 26 even if they don't. "He said those who planned to return to their home countries did not need to contact the bureau but also had to leave Thailand by Sept 26." The ones who get a new visa of some kind can stay after.
😂 you honestly have to be kidding. Who cares. 1) 90% of the tourists are gone. 2) the remaining 10% have 57 days to sort it out. 3) the situation is changing every day. Odds favour us staying much longer. I might have to drag myself in on sept 25th lol. IF nothing has changed by then. Wanna give me odds on that bet?
The Bangkok Post article makes it very clear. We have until September 26 to get a new visa of some kind or we have to leave, if not we will be considered on overstay. It seems that the blacklist comes in immediately if we stay past then. Of course, we will know more next week after the cabinet meeting and see what is in the Royal Gazette.
🤣🤣🤣 ok, I’ll stfu now! Everyone have a great Friday!

“So we do not propose to extend visas after July 31, but allow for visa requests from August 1 to September 26,” he said, adding the grace period will be proposed to cabinet for approval.
After which, if a request was not made and the visa expired, over staying will be considered illegal.
If i had to speculate about what this mean, I would say this does NOT apply to tourist or visa exempt visa holders. It would make sense this would apply to those needing yearly extensions of stay that expired during the amnisty period and didn't renew them. The grace period would allow those holders to apply for their extension without having to leave the country, and their expired visa would not effect their ability to extend.
They’ve been quiet for me because I just block those people immediately, they have nothing of value to offer and it makes these groups a more pleasant experience.
It’s no coincidence that they all seem to be big fans of a certain incompetent blow hard 😉

I love so many were saying should just f off coz we have overstayed our welcome...completely ignoring that most like me caught up in this are between visa renewals eg ed or work permits.

One guy commented and I believe very accurately if they ended the amnesty on the 31st they could not physically get all of the Foreigners out of the country in that short of time. There just aren’t that many planes taking off on international flights. What I’ve heard is most international flights have been canceled

I'm sure you do, there's many a theories out there on how to go about it. Some call it speculative art, or compare it to trading.. I monitor too..avoid booking on week-ends..middle of the night if I can, depending on time zone of airline hq..and try flying mid wk..but at the end of the day it's all a gamble, and theres many real time factors involved ( geopolitical, offer/demand, like 3rd parties buying bulk..or bogus etc) which u can't know about unless you work or have connections in the industry..but then you'd be getting such discounts you'd be out of the game anyways...
Freddie **********
But you are right that when it goes wrong its ping pong mayhem.. ostrich fest fucking nightmare...
agreed..tho personally I've never had issues with 3rd parties (or maybe once in 20 yrs). When I booked early Feb for end of March, I completely underestimated how fast the shit show would snowball....but so did most of the world...live and learn...
Freddie **********
And this is was Swampy less then 2 wks ago. B4 the rayong scare..

Freddie **********
Ok then, DO NOT book with 3rd party to fly during global pandemic lol
Freddie **********
That's a big + for refund policy..but how long they got? I'm looking at 1 yr minimum for my Emirates one..but it was headed for EU..think they have laws there too..I'll look into it..
You're strategy is a good one against cancellations for sure tho. But I'd suggest an early start, and a thick wallet 😉 .
my stance exactly. Already there's only a handful of the "usual" airlines flying in/out. And those have fewer flights scheduled then b4. Which they may or may not be allowed to fly jam packed for sanitary reasons (if so, not looking forward to 10+hrs in one). But reality is, so many are still getting canceled. No way there'll be enough seats to go around before the 31st...
Can you tell me which airlines are flying out of BKK on to LAX?
Flights are selling tickets through Expedia etc. But I hear the flights get canceled. I want to buy a ticket from BKK through to LAX sometime in August.
Freddie **********
DON'T BUY THROUGH EXPEDIA!!! Not right now anyways! Still waiting for confirmation of airline credit I was promised in March after flight canceled. They've been absolutely impossible to get a hold of, call center "overloaded" any email I get back says they're waiting for the airline to confirm T's & C's b4 they can issue anything.. I contacted the airline that week and got the info straight away, but since I booked with agent, voucher/refund needs to b processed by said agent...its been 4 mths...🤬🤬. But turns out I couldn't use voucher anyway since Emirates not flying here yet. So I'll deal with them when I'm out of here and can afford to be put on hold long distance for hrs....
My advice is book directly with the airline, especially with current cancellation rates, or you won't see the end of it.
As for which airlines fly to LAX, any airline will gladly take your money even if they're well aware at time of booking that flight is likely to cancel.
I been had this way too. Got 3K tied up with various airlines/agents for cancelled flights in multiple attempts to leave here last 4 mths...
So..Google flights is a good place to start but be sure to cross check with and monitor BKK arrival/departures. Either on their page or better flightradar24.com You may also be able to get a list from your embassy, but cross check that too (the one I got from my consulate was already outdated and turned out half the airlines weren't running..yet still taking bookings, but that was back in april)..I learned this the hard way.
before covid19, I always use a third-party booking to save money. And I save a lot of cash., take about 10 flights a year, and I never have had a problem
it’s only a problem when it goes bad. Then it’s a big problem. Find the flight you want on third party. Or learn the flight patterns. After finding the flight, check airline site directly. Should be cheaper (90% of time), if not, call them. When it’s multiple airlines can be more complicated. Have been travelling full time for last 84 months and 71 countries. Only for frame of reference. Up to you!!!
have to agree with David I always crosscheck with airlines directly but its rarely cheaper than 3rd parties. .. Tho I did a multi city 2 yrs ago NZ to L.A., then LA to Toronto then Montreal back to LA and onto NZ with 1 wk to a mth in each. And to my surprise got a better deal directly with United..tho most of it was code share..but still...
im not guessing. I actually check it. A secondary factor for me though is that I generally take last minute flights. And one way. I’m happy if people like to throw money away though.
truly nothing secret. Last minute flights. One way only, but I often glance at multiple destination flights for pricing. Occasionally beneficial. Be flexible about destination. I sometimes use the big 3rd party websites to locate opportunities, but booking with them will never go well if something goes wrong. Also identify which airlines fly out of which airport with
555 I know I need to buy from the airline website. I also understand if the flight lands in the United States even if it’s a foreign airline they are required to refund my ticket if canceled. I’ve got that much so far. Wondering if I should just go to Bangkok. go to the airline counter buy the ticket the day of We know the planes will not be overbooked. That’s what I think I’m gonna try and do. Just show up at the counter when the flight is supposed to leave try to book and buy. If it’s canceled try another airline. That’s what I’m going to do
why don’t you stuff it pal? Many are sick of your kind of advice. That said, I’m still moving forward with plans to get some kind of extension. Of course, I don’t have to explain this to you.
Reuters is pretty solid, but still: IT’S NOT OFFICIAL UNTIL “THE FAT LADY SINGS”. They should just extend for 90 days. That will will the chance of having to go thru this chaos again.
I think they’re making it clear they is the final chance to get a legitimate visa or GTFO. Sep 26 is exactly 6 months after the amnesty period started.
this is actually the first chance to get a legitimate visa, as their was no other legit alternative from amnesty. There was and still is no other alternative until whatever the announcement brings. Worth understanding the difference
The likelihood of recognition that COVID has created a unique global circumstance. So there will be a clear alternative for all of us on amnesty to convert to some form of in-country visa. Call it whatever they want, but a means that permit amnesty holders to extend their stay until such time and the global pandemic circumstance is dramatically reduced. At present, one can't even convert amnesty to a retirement visa or extend 30 day travel visa, even if criteria is met. There are no currently existing options to convert amnesty. Period. By the end of next week, it's highly likely there will be. In the meantime, we all are gonna have another 2 months or more :)
let’s see if we can recoup 1.9 trillion baht of international tourism revenue and 1.3 trillion for domestic revenue while having the borders open. NOT HAPPENING
Doubt it honestly. Thai people are scared shitless because of this virus. Then again, even a full opening would be a joke because tourists are forced to pay for a 2 week minimum 60,000-90,000 baht quarantine stay .. that puts off the majority of Western visitors
Yup, millions unemployed, awful situation. I am getting the feeling that the government is intending to mainly cater to the wealthy Asian tourists that could not care less about a silly 60-90,000 baht quarantine.
agree, they could’ve just allowed people to come in and pay for whatever visa extension “fits” the situation. Some immigration offices have done that already. That way everybody wins.
Good becuse alot of Australians cannot get a plane . Because Australian government has betrayed Australian citizen by putting a cap on how many people can come back on a plane.
So last week aussie stated they would not issue letters however i believe they are anyway.
Also forcing you (as a citizen) to cover your own quarantine was deemed illegal by i believe a qld court so no doubt you will be threatened to have to pay but ultimately won't have too.
NZ are issuing letters and have been a long time. Now they have closed all flights incl repatriation for 3 weeks so no going "home" anyway
imagine how expensive the flights will be if they can't bring passengers into Thailand and can only take 50 per flight back to Australia....... I saw one the price was 340,000 baht.......
yes the Australian Embassy are doing it because of the flight cap into Australian cities. Emailed them today and just got the letter on same day....great work by the Australian Embassy team.
sorry mate I don't know. But they should because of the of the 50 people limit per plane . Please let me know how you get on. I would ring the embassy an email them as well. Good luck
I'm actually Canadian and haven't gotten any replies from my embassy yet. Was just curious what the Australian embassy has been telling people these days.
I suspect I may not get a reply until the announcement is made and the situation going forward is more clear.
i received a pro forma rejection letter from Canada embassy this week. Will see what the announcement brings and proceed from there. Essentially, we just have to figure out the way forward from Oct 1 forward :) Great time to be here though
It says you will get the time to get your extension until September. What if according to the rules you are not eligible for extension and it is denied?
There are many people from Argentina on 90 days visa exempt, who couldn't get an extension before the amnesty was declared. Would they get an extension now or would they still not qualify? And what if not?
Anyway, soon the extension requirements will be known.
similar situation. Essentially, they will have until 26 sept to sort out next visa. Long grace period

Yeah, I was wondering that too. So you show up on April 1 and they say you cannot get an extention because you have been in Thailand to long with the Amnesty . And they will fine you 500 Baht a day until you can get a flight out. Which will probably still be cancelled if you can find one at all.
no issues with that at all. One thing that is clear is that they realize there would not be time to get people out. Whenever a clear decision is made by government, there will be at least 30 days warning. Just relaxing poolside or the beach in the meantime.
Freddie **********
No issues for you, depends on what your plans are.. but tho this is good news, the suspense is killing many of us..clearly.
No way to know for sure. The cabinet meets on tuesday and in the past they have made an announcement of their decision later in the day and then it was published to the gazette on the Wednesday.

Yep, it literally says "the grace period will be proposed to cabinet for approval". Good news all the same.
other reports and statements from the ministry of foreign affairs spokesman, who has been a much more reliable source of information than immigration, have indicated that it will in fact be an extension of amnesty and will be until Sept 30th.
