My family and I are currently on the two month covid extension. We understand there will be another extension to take us up to the end of May. Is that actually official? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers on the COVID visa extension process in Thailand and whether it will officially extend through May. Community members confirm that applications for extensions need to be made before existing visa stamps expire, and while there is speculation about extensions being made official, it remains uncertain until an announcement is made. Several comments also address specific experiences with immigration offices and the requirements for obtaining either a 30-day or a 60-day extension.

Am I eligible for the covid extension if I flew here Jan 2021? Or is covid extension only for expats that have been here since covid started?

I came on a 60 day TR Visa, but it expires March 30.

1)Can I get a covid extension (is it 60 days?) or do I just need to pay for the 30 day extension?

2) How many days before my visa expires should I apply for an extension?

Thanks!

FYI for others with questions on Hat Yai Immigration:

They have lunch break from 12pm-1pm, so the "information guy" does not answer any questions then 😅

They had an officer outside to assist people, and he was very quick and helpful! He handed me all of the paperwork I needed for a 30 day tourist extension, told me where I could get passport photo copies nearby (only 6 baht!), and also assisted with a residency issue.

They did seem a bit stiff with rules. After looking up my passport, they told me my address was registered in BKK and I needed to get it changed. I told them I had listed a friend's address in phuket that I was staying with after quarantine. They told me I would need to go to phuket immigration to get an extension. I told them I was staying with a friend in Hat Yai and they asked why my friend didn't register me, even if it was only for one night... They directed me to another building where they said I needed to change my address again. Everything worked out though. 1 hour wait from time of submitting passport until I received it back. I came on a Thursday afternoon.

At the outside of immigration hat yai, I was told 60 day covid extension without the first 30 day tourist extension was not possible. It was worth a try. Thanks.

many offices will insist you get the regular 30 day extension before issuing a 60 day Covid extension. Some do allow it. You’d need to check with your local immigration office.

do you know what immigration offices have allowed 60 day covid extension without the 30 day tourist extension first? (I'm in Hat Yai, but going to satun tomorrow and trang Monda )

@Corey ******
sorry I don’t. Some friends told me Phuket would allow but I’ve not seen a report stating someone got theirs before the regular extension.

thank you very much for your response!

didn’t see the second part. Most offices allow you to apply 30 days in advance. Some like Phuket and Bangkok allow 45 days.

great. Thank you! I'm in Hat Yai. I believe the immigration office is only 3km away, so I will see what they say. Thanks!

going next Monday.

The last date that you can apply for a Covid extension is March 30th. Whether that deadline will be extended is not known. Many expect it to be, but until they announce something we just won’t know for sure.

I think most of us are hoping further extension won't be necessary.
