TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around skepticism and criticism of Thailand's current approach to quarantine rules for travelers, particularly from China. Many commenters express frustration over perceived inconsistencies and the lack of follow-through on previous visa options like the Special Tourist Visa (STV). The discussion raises concerns about the validity of allowing visitors from a country where COVID-19 originated without typical quarantine protocols, emphasizing fears about safety and public health. Additionally, there are underlying tensions related to Thailand's political and economic ties with China.

it really seems like a schizo type of break in Thailand. The government leans toward China nowadays, while the populace is very much western oriented, and to a good extent anti- Chinese. Possibly the problem started after the coup and John Kerry American Secretary of State condemned Thailand harshly. Now with the growth of the Chinese mobile middle class, Thailand is figuring out what side its bread is buttered on. And if the government cracks down hard on the protesters, it’s sure it won’t get any recriminations from Xi.

We had enough "great" ideas that have never been followed through. Those people involved need to get a f***ing grip already and instead start following through with some former ideas for a change. E.g. offering the Special Tourist Visa (STV) in all countries now. Why would the number of infections in the country of origin make any difference anyhow, if everybody has to bring a COVID-19 free certificate before even setting a food on the plane, and take two more tests during a strict 15 nights quarantine? Out of over 100,000 people that returned that way, not a single one brought a new COVID-19 case into Thailand following quarantine. Get a grip Thailand and open up for everybody who is willing to follow safety procedures. Stop playing around!

Most I know seem to have a grasp of it yes, but unwilling to stand up and be counted, so to speak.

Most have seen the repercussions of standing up to the Government there and are very skeptical of the end result should they actually do it.

They know the Military will retaliate on orders so tend to watch from the sidelines.

Hopefully this time will be different as I hear more and more vocal rumbling about the King.... which you absolutely would never heard of No:9.

Let’s see.....

Vietnam has even lower numbers of Covid cases than Thailand. It would make sense to use Vietnam as a trial for letting people enter without quarantine. Granted lots of Vietnamese don’t visit Thailand but there are some as well as foreigners staying in Vietnam on visa extensions who would like to go to Thailand.

I meant Thailand should let people currently in Vietnam Enter Thailand without quarantine. Vietnam should do the same for people in Thailand. Foreigners could do visa runs, which would increase passengers on flights a bit.

I have heard that it is possible to get into Cambodia now without quarantine, other than two nights on arrival while they get results on your Covid test.
