Hello…my partner and I are due to come out in January on an ED visa, we have our enrolment from the school and we were in the middle of applying for the visa before the announcement that they have suspended the Thai pass. Do you think we should wait and see what the new announcement is or should we still book flights (on a flexi ticket)and visas before they change anything?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to travel to Thailand in January on an ED visa, having already enrolled in a language school, but is unsure whether to wait for updates on visa rules due to recent announcements regarding the Thai Pass. Comments clarify that while ED visas are challenging to obtain before entering the country, options exist to convert a tourist visa or utilize quarantine measures upon arrival. Suggestions include staying updated and possibly booking a flexible ticket while proceeding with visa applications.
With a language school you can not get an ED visa to enter the country, but you can get one after you get here on a tourist visa, just not the STV tourist visa. Just because you already paid for the school does not mean you will get an ED visa to enter Thailand. You can come now, just give yourself the extra 10 days quarantine required again in Bangkok at your expense. That does not look like it is ending anytime soon, given how this Omicron covid variety is spreading.
Lauren Sillence. So if it's an approved school and course you should continue with your application and choose seven days quarantine in Bangkok or seven days sandbox in Phuket. Keep the group informed as to your progress as I'm sure there's many others would contemplate the same
Unless it’s for a university course or an international school then I don’t believe any of the embassies will sell a ED visa at the moment. You can convert from a tourist visa (or exempt) in country but not for entry in to Thailand.
