Hi, I’m a 42y Austrian Guy and will be starting a job as a project manager with a German company on September 1, 2026. I’ll be working 100% remotely for this company, and I’ve had this stipulated in my contract. My boss is also willing to provide a special letter of confirmation for the Thai Embassy in Vienna.

What do you think my chances are of obtaining a DTV visa, given that the job doesn't start until September—meaning I obviously can't provide current payslips from the future employer yet?

As financial security, I can demonstrate holdings of €100,000 in each of four different instant-access savings accounts—a total of €400,000.

I wouldn't be traveling to Thailand until October.

Thanks for your help.
Answer summary
A 42-year-old Austrian man inquires about his chances of obtaining a DTV visa to Thailand while working remotely for a German company, starting September 1, 2026. He plans to arrive in Thailand in October but cannot provide current payslips due to the job not having started yet. He has significant savings totaling €400,000 to demonstrate financial stability. Community responses vary, with some suggesting he wait until he has started the job, while others advise him to gather supporting documents and consider applying for alternative visa options.

If it’s a reputable company and not a startup that was founded s few days ago it’s worth a try. But adding documents like Jahresberichte ( whatever that is in English. Annual reports?) could help. I am on soft power but sent them way more than requested which certainly didn’t lower my chances of getting approved

Either wait or apply via soft power.

You're better off applying after you've started your job.

The problem is that my job starts on September 1st, and I’d like to arrive in Thailand as early as October 1st.

Do you think it would help if I applied for the DTV right on September 1st? I still wouldn't have any proof of salary by then, after all.

Anonymous participant don't be in such a hurry. Thailand isn't going anywhere. Wait until you've received at least one payment, showing immigration it is a real job.

Ich würde an deiner Stelle eine Agency nutzen, z.B. FS Consulting in Pattaya. Wird geführt von einem Landsmann von dir, kann dir sicher sagen wie du erfolgreich vorgehen kannst bzw sie regeln das für dich.

Do cooking course or muay thai instead

I doubt the company he'll work for would be happy with that. They'd want to see him on a DTV based on Workation so he is clearly working legally from Thailand

Muay Thai would of course be the alternative way to realize my dream. However, I really don't have any interest in martial arts and would then have to drag myself there against my will for six months. 🙈

Das wage ich zu bezweifeln. Schon mal was von JTL, Odoo, Shopify, Shopware & Co gehört oder gegoogelt was man da so verdient? Wer soll dir das als „ahnungsloser“ bezahlen?

You can email the embassy and ask. Some embassies accept new contracts without being paid yet.

Anonymous participant what kind of work did you do before this new job in September? Have you been regularly been filing your income taxes each year? With a new contract immigration usually asks for your most recent income tax filing.

Anonymous participant have you looked at the ten year 5+5 LTR visa?

It's the BEST THAI VISA for those who qualify for it.

I’ve been doing the same job in the same industry for over 11 years. I only switched jobs because the new employer pays more and offers me 100% remote work. My current employer requires me to be in the office at least twice a month, which obviously wouldn't be possible from Thailand.

And of course, I always filed my tax returns in Austria. I never earned less than €100,000 gross.

I think your chances are slim. They want to see that the work is stable. You should wait until you've worked at least 6 months. You could apply for soft power tho and don't mention anything about working remotely.

Well, I've been working in the same industry continuously for 11 years. I'm only switching jobs for a higher salary and the chance to work 100% remotely (currently only 80% remote), so I can fulfill my dream of living in Thailand. My income has been stable for many years, which is also reflected in my savings. If I were to sell my apartment and my car, I would have significantly more savings. I think that even people from much less affluent backgrounds have received visas.

Anonym deltagare It’s not about your previous jobs or your savings. They want to see that your current job is stable and they want to see the equivalent of 500k thb seasoned for usually 3 months. You can have whatever opinion you want about this but that’s just the way it is. But by all means go ahead and apply for workaction and take a chance.
