What payslips should my wife submit for her DTV visa application if she plans to work remotely for a Malaysian university after leaving her job in Canada?

Hello, my Wife and I live in Canada and wish to move to Thailand in Jan 2026. We wish to apply for DTV under the Remote worker category.

Most likely, my wife is going to be the main applicant, while I will be applying as a dependent. The question we had was about the 3-month payslips that we have to show.

Current situation: My wife currently works at a Director level in a University in Canada. She wishes to quit this job by Dec 2025 before we travel to Thailand in Jan 2026. lets say we apply for DTV around Nov 2025, do we submit payslips from this Canadian University?

Future situation: By Oct 2025, she is also expecting to receive a job offer from a Univertsity in Malaysia, where her role will be of an adjunct faculty working remotely from thailand. Her offer letter can state this too. The catch is, although she will get the new job offer by Oct 2025, she doesnt wish to take up any teaching assignments until Jan 2027. We wish to travel thailand from Jan 2026 to Jan 2027(taking a gap year).

Question: When required to submit 3 months' payslips, does she have to provide them from the current job in Canada, or will the embassy expect to see payslips from the new Malaysian university?

Any suggestions in this regard is much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the appropriate payslips to submit for a Thailand DTV visa application under the remote worker category. Specifically, they want to know if they should provide payslips from the wife's current Canadian job, which she will quit by December 2025, or from a new position she expects to hold with a Malaysian university starting in late 2025, despite not performing any teaching duties until January 2027. There are concerns regarding demonstrating her remote work status and ensuring compliance with visa requirements.

She is receiving an online teaching assignment and a PhD supervisor role from a university in malaysia that only operates online programs. So they have the flexibility of having their instructors located in any part of the world.

Thank you all for your replies, She will get an employment letter from Malaysian university stating that she will remotely work(online lectures) to offer her teaching services to the Malaysian university. Regarding her canadian job, once she quits, it will be done with. She won't have any relations with them afterwards.

But since its an adjunct role, her services may not be required immediately. And she can make herself available for the teaching assignments as she wishes. If she wishes to not teach until 2027, they wouldn't mind. She would still be employed under the company, but not earning anything until she starts delivering lectures

as you know every embassy is different and they change what is required overtime. When I applied, I had letter from HR and also show pay slips. It sounds like your wife might not have any pay slips, so that could (or not) be an issue.

hmm.. thats the confusion we were facing. She can provide pay slips of her current job which she will still have while applying for the DTV visa in Nov 2025. But the job letter that she will show is of a future role, the letter may say " appointed adjunct faculty as of Oct 2025". Its a little weird situation and we are thinking of perhaps speaking to one of the agents. They may have lot of experience dealing with variety of applications.

Not sure why it is confusing. You need to show you have a digital nomad job, which some embassies require proof of payment. You showing payment slips from another job, which isn’t a digital nomad job, isn’t usually what they want. You can try and see what happens. Maybe it works, but good chance it doesn’t

My apologies, what is the remote work your wife will be doing from Thailand? It seems like she will be in between jobs. The letter you supply needs to state she has a job, she can do the job remotely and she can do it from Thailand. If she is leaving her job in Canada, I assume they won’t supply her that type of letter. Also, it sounds like her job with the university of Malaysia requires her to be in Mtaylasia, but that they are offering her the job far out. Will they write her a letter stating she can work remote from Thailand?

She's not currently/application time a remote worker, unless her current job has some remote aspect to it, that she can articulate, certify via employment contract, verify.

If you are applying as a remote worker then you need to show that you are a remote worker. Seems to me what you are looking to do is verging on fraudulent. Much better to apply using one of the soft power options
