Flew in today to chiang mai with my DTV which I got in Taipei yesterday. Here are some notes to help others who are looking to get the DTV in Taipei:

- I have a US passport

- It cost me 11,000 TWD (had to pay in TWD)

- I got the visa the same day I applied

- I was called some hours after I submitted and asked to submit an extra document

- A total of 22 non-thai showed up for visas (of all varieties). I know its 22 because the monitor that shows the queue number remained at 22 when I went to pick up at 5pm

- The staff spoke English and noted that they were interested in me passing. I say this to express that they are helpful and present

- Documents I used:

- A cover letter with bullet points of the what financial pages are being submitted

- 3 different bank statements showing current balance. They noted that they cared mostly about the the statement I had that said CURRENT BALANCE. In other words, previous months is not as interesting. But I would put it in again anyways

- A recent pay slip

- A cover letter with bullet points of the what work evidence is being submitted

- Articles of organization of my llc

- company's EIN (this is the document they requested)

- Some pages from two active contracts to prove I have work

- Visa application form (with a 2 inch passport photo glued. The form says to use 3.2cm but the online guide says to use 2 inch)

- Copy of passport biopage

- Every page I submitted was signed

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US passport holder shares their experience obtaining a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Taipei, including costs, required documents, and timeline. They detail the application process, noting they received their visa the same day with the necessary financial documentation. Comments from readers further discuss the specifics of the application, such as the inclusion of an employer letter for remote positions, and queries about required additional documentation like the ARC (foreign residence permit). The discussion also touches on the interview process, the effectiveness of the consulate staff, and preparation tips for future applicants.

thanks so much for this info, gonna go to Taipei to get this visa too. For the EIN, what document did you provide to prove this? Was it the original issuance letter from IRS (CP-575) or something else?
Nicholas *******

@James *****
issuance letter from IRS is what they were expecting

Did they ask for the ARC (foreign residence permit)? Thank you! 🙏
Nicholas *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
Yes I was asked if I had one. I told them I did not and they didn't inquire further

I’m curious what you used as a payslip if you’re working for your own company. Was this a 1099 from a past client or copy of a paid invoice?

@Alan ******
I am also an employee of my own company (its an s corp)

would the process be identical if your role was a remote position in a company as opposed to running your own side hustle business?
Pol *******
Can I use my employer's bank statement and sponsorship instead of my personal bank account?
Kami ******
@Joseph ******
no its different... remote is less documents . Most important Is the employer letter and the Financials

At the moment of this writing, these are the options when using the Taipei consulate. This is from their application guide

Thanks for the info :)

How cool 🙂 Did you provide a visa stamp copy as proof of location?
Wannikea *********
@Eva ********
I'm thinking he applied in person, I'm waiting for verification of this. Obviously physically handing in his passport with a Taiwan entry stamp shows current location. Are you fishing for a way to apply online from a non eligible location?
Nicholas *******

@Wannikea ********
Just to be clear and for others who search upon this post later - I did apply in person. I also was not asked about proof of location
Wannikea *********
@Nicholas ******
I think it would be pretty redundant to require proof of location from someone standing in front of you handing over their passport. Rereading the thread I saw that Singapore is an in person application.
Eva *********
I am just curious about proof of location because it is a requirement at most embassies. Taipei is not even part of the online e-visa so how would i fish my way in :D.
Wannikea *********
@Eva ********
at another embassy with an online application and e-visa approval.

@Eva ********
I did not provide any proof of location. It wasn't asked
Karl *******
Isn't the DTV normally issued electronically? What did you actually have to pick up?
Ellie *******
@Karl ******
, Taiwan is not on eVisa system. You have to apply for and correct it on your passport in person a the consulate in those countries that consulate has not implemented eVisa system.
Nicholas *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
There is an option where you can physically go to a consulate, submit your passport along with the DTV application, and should you get approved, they will put the visa in your passport
Nicholas *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
You are right. eVisa, like you and Ellie stated, would be for other countries
Tod *********
@Nicholas ******
careful there is NO online option using the Taipei thai consulate As ellie said it's not an eVisa country it's a walk up apply in person consulate 🙂
Tod *********
thank you for the update, that is definitely a consulate that few people use
Ryan ********
@Tod ********
it is not a consulate. it is the “Thailand Trade and Economic Office 泰國貿易經濟辦事處”
Tod *********
@Ryan *******
yep, but NO ONE who hasn't been there would even know that which is why I called it what I did "consular services" is who issues visas 🙂
Nicholas *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
One of the two reasons I came here. The other reason being that other consulates, from what I read on their requirements, required something along the lines of "proof of company authenticated by embassy of the country where company is located" - I didn't want to spend time with that

Congrats on getting the visa too, (y) well done 🙂
