What are the best options for applying for a Non-B visa at Thai consulates in Malaysia, Laos, and Vietnam?

Hi,

I searched for "non-B" in the group but didn't find much, so asking here.

I need to go to an overseas Thai consulate to apply for a Non-B visa for my upcoming work permit. My employer has recommended Laos or Malaysia. I'm also thinking of Vietnam, purely because I've never been and it would be great to see Ho Chi Min. But the ease of getting the visa is of course most important.

Any recent experience regarding the length of time it took to process the visa in either Malaysia, Laos or Vietnam? Any issues with any of the consulates?

Talk with your employer well. At most consulates, you need a letter from the employer addressed to a specific consulate name. You may not be able to change the consulate to apply for your visa on your own at the last minute.

start finding the websites of the consulate you're thinking of going to, reading the requirements and make sure your employer has the documentation so you can meet them and get the 90 day Non-B visa

Lao

Vientiane requires an appointment be booked online, (NO walk up service) and they take 3 days to process your visa paperwork (turn in monday pick up wednesday.

Savannakhet is walk up service, and they take 2 days to process your visa paperwork.

Vietnam

HCMC requires an online booking. Check their website.

Hanoi is walk up service

Malaysia

Penang & Kota Bharu are walk up service,

Kuala Lumpur requires an online appointment to apply and to pick your passport back up

I would not pick a place just because you haven't been there before, you're trying to get a visa not see the place as a tourist. I would pick a place where you know you're going to get the visa issued.

As I said start going to the websites of the consulates and look at the requirements. I'd try Savannakhet of Penang personally.

Good Luck with it

Hey, one last question. I have booked an appointment in Vientiane. I know nothing is for certain, but are they generally quite good about the 3-day turnaround?

I've got an appt on Tuesday and I'm tempted to book a flight back on Thursday evening.

They are really good about it IF you meet all the requirements for the visa you're applying for (y)

I'd say you're safe booking a flight back

Just remember how long it takes to pick up your passport and get to the airport so you're not cutting it too fine.

They give the passports back from 13:30 - 16:00 in the order they're taken the day of application I believe (or that's how it was before), but maybe not now seeing as they're not that busy

you shouldn't have any issues because you're getting a BOI company Non-B and the company should know what they're doing document wise ๐Ÿ˜›

Thank you, all the documents are ready. The employer said that they have mostly done the visas in Laos and KL, but that I'm welcome to choose. I have the time, and expect no issues with the visa (BOI company) so getting a bit of sightseeing in is a bonus ๐Ÿ˜Š

, all consulates might have slightly different requirements for documentation even for Non-B with BOI company. If your employer has experience with specific consulate(s), I'd stick with those, but it's maybe only me.
