Looking at getting a multiple entry tourist visa ( Australian passport ).

Question on one of the required Documents for the visa, which is stated on the Thai embassy site as:

A bank statement in the past six months showing a deposit account minimum of ฿200,000 per person.

Is this referring to a single deposit amount, deposits that total more than 200,000 or that shows a balance of this amount ?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question concerns the bank statement requirement for a multiple entry tourist visa (METV) for Australian passport holders, specifically whether the Thai embassy's directive for a minimum balance of ฿200,000 refers to a single deposit, cumulative deposits, or simply a balance at the time of the statement. Community responses suggest variability between different Thai consulates in Australia, with some requiring proof of a consistent balance over several months, while others may accept just a current balance statement. It's advised to check directly with the specific consulate for precise requirements.

The thai consulate in Perth is pretty easy going too. (or at least I know several americans who got 6 month METV's from there without issue).

I just looked into this very question for different reasons.. What I discovered is that different consulates have slightly different rules. I used Melbourne in the past and they were cool with credit card statement showing I have more than enough available balance. Other consulates requre "deposit" account.

Advice to you. if you are not happy with once consulate - go to another (if feasible).

BEWARE, I was asked for EVERY SINGLE bank statement for the past 6 months. Not one statement showing a 6 month period. So, March, Feb, Jan, Dec, Nov, Oct were required. (This was in Hong Kong, yesterday at the Thai consulate)

you’re 100% correct. Merely sharing the last time “I checked”, which was Monday. This week. In Hong Kong. On the ground.

and while that's interesting it's got almost nothing to do with a thai consulate OTHER than hong kong.

Last time I checked you needed to legally live/work in hong kong to use that consulate for a 6 month METV

Hey, is there a reason you chose the multi entry over the single entry visa?

I don't know which one to choose I just want to stay in Thailand for the longest time possible

@Robert ******
Eh that's pretty sad lots of mis information then. They also said I don't need a return plane ticket with a 6 month visa, is that right?
Robert *******
Sam Alberton They are not correct. The Conslulate put the visa in your passport. On entry you get a new stamp with 60 days of stay, just before or on that day you make a border run for a new 60 days. You can keep on doing this till the Enter Before or Valid Until date mentioned on the visa. You last Admitted to Stay period you can extend with another 30 days at local Immigration. If you plan correctly you can get almost 270 days of stay inside Thailand out of this visa.

@Robert ******
Consulate today told me only need to go to immigration to get it re stamped

You only get the stamp at a point of entry. Meaning you leave and come back to activate a new 60 day period.

What do you mean border runs? I spoke to the adelaide consulate today they said you can get it stamped every 60 days no need to leave the country

no idea

I usually come on visa exempt

Woody Daniels Oh yep, thanks so much :) I think i'll go with the multi one too

Is it because for single entry's, it's a lot harder to apply for a new one? As opposed to just get it stamped with a multi entry

Hi Sam, the reason I am looking at the multi is the single entry with an extension gets you 90 days max.

The multi can potentially get you up to 3 times this if you time your boarder runs and extensions right.

For me it depent on how long I can take in one hit off work,.if it's over 3 months then I'll go the multi.

Some consulates require you show 6 months worth of bank statements with a balance of 200K baht each month but some just want a bank statement showing 200K baht in the account.

It looks like that Sydney just needs a statement dated within the last 6 months that has 200K baht or 9K AUD in the account.

@Tod ********
yeah.

Time to move some money around me thinks

@Woody ********
I think looking at their site that it's just a balance of 200K in the account when you print off the statement to show the balance..

@Tod ********
yeah I think your right.

It's either that or deposits totalling. I guess a phone call to the embassy may clear it up.
Tod *********
I think they're like Perth and just require a bank statement that shows you have 9K Australian (200K baht) in the account
Tamas *******
It means you have to prove you have enough money in your bank. If you have a savings account then just get a fresh statement showing the balance is more than 200k thb in AUD.
Tod *********
and what thai consulate are you applying for this 6 month METV at?
