Hi I have a couple of questions about the multi entry tourist visa: edit. I will be applying in Laos at Viantiene

1. It says I need to have 200,000 baht and 6 months of bank statements. I have about £3,000 (112,000 baht) but a regular income. Do I need the lump sum in my account or would the above suffice?

2. If I get 60 days, is that in total? So if I stay in Thailand 20 days then leave for a week then come back I still have 40 days?

Thanks in advance for your help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the requirements for obtaining a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) in Laos, specifically regarding bank balance and duration of stay. Respondents clarify that applicants need proof of residency for applying for the METV in Laos, and while they can enter Thailand multiple times with the METV, each entry allows for a 60-day stay that can be extended. However, applicants may only obtain a single-entry visa from Thai consulates in Southeast Asia, emphasizing the importance of applying in their home country or at specific locations in Australia.

I think that you understand now that you're NOT going to get a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa from ANY thai consulate in S/E Asian countries and that you either get it in your country BEFORE you wing your way here OR go to the closest place that will sell them without a residency requirement which is the thai consulates in Australia (except Sydney).

All you can get from the thai consulates around here would be a single entry tourist visa that would stamp you in for 60 days and that you could extend by 30 more days at the immigration office.

Anyway, the way METV works is that you can enter Thailand multiple times within the 6 months it is valid (starts the day it goes in your passport). On each entry, you get a 60 day stay, which you can extend at Immigration for ฿1,900 to get another 30 days. If a border bounce is easier, forego the extension.

Single entry TV is valid for 60 days and if you leave it ends the visa. You can get a reentry permit though.

the reentry permit will be fine for what I need. Thank you for your help.

Do note that on your return you only retain the original permitted to stay from your initial entry. Following from your example in the original post, if you leave after 20 days with a re-entry permit, upon your return, you do not get 40 days more. The period that you are away will continue to run down the 40 days. But you can then go get the extension from Immigration.

maybe the single entry is best and then get a reentry permit. Thanks for your help.

You won't get a METV from Laos unless you're a resident there.

You're better of stating where you intend to apply for the visa and I'm not sure that the METV is available anymore.

Where are you applying for this METV?

Scott Hattronix Hattrell what is your passport nation? If you are going to Australia then make application for the METV at Perth. They do consider issuing the METV to Westerners.
