What are the requirements and enforcement for the 6-month METV tourist visa in Thailand?

Greetings all,

2nd question of the day. Thailand has implemented their (relatively) new 6 month tourist visa. I am considering the METV variant, but I am disheartened by the USD7000 bank balance requirement. I have heard that this requirement is not strictly enforced. I would like to know if any here are currently using or have used this visa option, and if so, have you been asked for the $7k bank balance upon applying for this visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The thread discusses the 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand and the associated requirement of maintaining a $7,000 bank balance. While some users share their experiences, stating that the requirement is enforced at certain consulates, others note that it may vary depending on location. The discussion also highlights specific consular policies, particularly in the US, where some consulates may have different requirements.

Thx all for the info. My first stay in Thailand is with a SETV because I have no plans to travel outside of the Country for the duration of the Visa. The 2nd leg of my tour is a 30 day visa exemption entry in the Philippines. The next leg is a 60 day (+ extension) SETV, and finally an extended stay in the Philippines (depending on remaining budgetary reserves). my question regarding a METV was to entertain the possibility of an extended stay in Thailand without the obligation of leaving the Country between tours. In others words, I wanted to have more of a scheduling freedom for the duration of my tour. The way things stand now is that I can get by on a couple of SETV, with a 30 day visa exemption stay in the Philippines.

You need to show it in the states.

Every time I get one I have to show it

AFAIK; the ONLY consulate in the US that issues a 6 month METV without six months of bank statements with a balance of $7K US is the one in Los Angeles, they only require the balance to show on your account not be in there for 6 months.

If the Embassy/Consulate where you apply require it then it will most likely be enforced

You can only get a 6 month METV from the country your passport comes from BEFORE you wing your way here. That's because ALL the thai consulates in S/E Asia have a residency requirement where you have to legally live in the country where you're applying for the METV.

The only consulates which don't have the residency requirement on this side of the globe are the thai consulates in Australia.

ALL the consulates that sell the 6 month METV strictly enforce the financial requirements though.

And the best part also about Hobart Consulate - you apply and get your visa and passport back within 5-10 minutes, not days later :))

The Thai Embassy Canberra (Australia) DOES require financials, as you will see on their application form

One correction: Thai Consulate in Hobart, Tasmania (Australia) does NOT have any financial requirements for METV - you will even notice their specific application form doesn't even mention any financial requirements. BUT its a long way out of normal travel haha ๐Ÿ˜‰
