TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the experiences of expats purchasing AXA insurance in Thailand. A member noted their long wait for policy documents after applying and paying for insurance, leading to negative feedback about AXA's efficiency. Many participants shared their experiences, praising or criticizing AXA and Luma, highlighting issues with claims processing, customer service, and overall satisfaction with insurance companies such as Allianz and Cigna. Several recommendations were made to use agents for better service, and some expressed concerns about the speed of claim reimbursements. A few users also questioned potential problems with online applications and suggested checking for errors in the submission.

Let’s just say it’s been 8 months and we have yet to be reimbursed for our approved claim. The check has been lost in the mail, the check was then being sent to our bank, then they forgot to press a button of some sort. It goes on and on and on.

My experience with Luma insurance was outstanding. I thankfully never needed to make a claim. Time it took to buy their insurance and receive a policy was less than 24 hours.

So you bought on Dec 16th and trying to make a claim? When did you submit claim? I used axa but didn’t need it

Been with AXA for years. Never had problems with them, always had my claims paid within 6 weeks. OPD under 50k is paid directly by AXA for my insurance.

THAT is the problem with MOST so-called "Travel Insurance", and why I for one do not recommend. They are very limited in coverage, and length of time; and good luck collecting from them when you need them.

Luma was not good or Quick in handling our case

I never had problems with AXA . After 4 to 6 weeks they normally pay your bills. Other insurance companies need 8 to 10 weeks.
Bring the bill personally to the nearest AXA office and there's no problem with payment. They payed me out-patient COVID therapy 7.5 k thb within 4 weeks.
I am with Cigna and opted to pay my 17k bill first and then claim. The claim was settled in less than 3 weeks. Don't say "other insurance companies" need 8-10 weeks, as if it's fact, when it's NOT.
Yeah! They’re expensive! They’re killing me too! But I’m older and I’ve got lot’s of problems. And no one else will insure me, so I’m stuck with them. But it really is good insurance!
I agree totally! When I started with them they were a whole lot cheaper. That was back when I was younger and healthier and they hadn’t been taken over by another company. Now since I’m sick they have me trapped. I can’t afford to do without it, but I’m having trouble affording keeping it. I’d jump to another company, even if they weren’t as good, but nobody else will insure me.

I have a company called Passport. They’re out of Germany. I’m 67 years old and have everything wrong with me.
I’m currently paying $856 per month. But with that I get $2.5 million in coverage. They cover just about everything and I’ve never been denied. They’ll pay for both being in the hospital and out patient.
There’s no deductible. They give me a credit card to use to pay my medical bills. When I leave the hospital I get the bill. I then call Passport and have them top off the card for that amount. I then pay the bill. That’s the last I hear about it. I’ve never had a problem.
They’re accepted everywhere. I’ve used them at several hospitals in Pattaya and Bumrungrad Hospital up in Bangkok.

Strange how i just received my policy a few hours after posting on here.
does that cover the cost of any claim, or just get you you monthly payment charged back, which is pretty pointless up against a large hospital bill. Have you first hand experience ?
no you would simply be refunded what was charged to your CC. I don't think the OP is talking about a claim, he is complaining that he hasn't received policy paperwork (I think)
One problem with using third parties (and I know that generally agents are a better option...I'm not criticizing your choice AT ALL...it's actually one of the reasons I hate health insurance as a concept in the first place, lol) is that you never know where or why the breakdown is. I'd be careful to blame the company without actually know what is happening. You don't have a view directly into what is happening.
Never ever would I buy any insurance from AXA. I was a passenger in a car. It was hit from the side. I ended up in the hospital. I could not get pre-authorisation whilst on a stretcher. The next day talked to AXA and explained everything. They promised to pay. I even got a fax sent to the two hospitals I had to attend to say they would pay. 12 months later they had not paid and I had to fight a legal case to get them to pay. On the eve of that case, they paid. I am a Barrister of law. What that company put me through, could be unbearable for most people with a non-legal background. Since that day, I avoid any policy underwritten by AXA. We have had an excellent experience with Allianz. Not the cheapest but they could not have been better when we went to Bumrungrad in Bangkok. They followed up and made sure all was okay, for weeks after.
bought through a very well-respected international 3rd party. I actually wrote to the CEO of that company and every board member. 1 year later they dropped AXA as the underwriter of their policies.
yes, I concur. 3 years to pay out on a excess car hire policy. £90 was the claim. I canx’d my 5 other policies as if I had that much trouble receiving a paltry amount - I wasn’t confident of a large health/home insurance claim!
sounds like you got some health issues or something holding it up then..

Sounds like a suspect claim here - they are obviously investigating everything very carefully. A lot of scams going on at the moment. Especially those businesses which are for sale - and suffering mysterious fires!
I’be got a very good friend currently in ICU in Bangkok who suffered a major heart attack, just over 2 weeks ago. He is with Cigna and they have been brilliant, so once I retire from work, I know who I’ll be looking for my medical insurance?

When I did mine, from AXA too and online also, I received everything next minute

Should have used an agent, mine was done the same day.
