What are my options for extending my stay in Thailand with a non immigrant O visa and an expiring passport?

I have a situation I won’t go into how it happened but.

I have a non immigrant O visa 1 day over stay on 90 leave and come back period.

Problem I went to Cambodian border to find out they won’t give me ninety more days because my passport expires in one month.

I figure they would just give me 90 days to transfer to new passport when it arrives.

They said I could go to maptaput to try get an extension.

Any one have any ideas of my options? Bit worried.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual has a non-immigrant O visa and is facing an overstay issue due to passport validity constraints. Upon visiting the Cambodian border, they were denied a new 90-day entry because their passport expires in a month. They were guided to seek an extension at the Maptaput office. Comments from the community suggest applying for a passport renewal, considering an emergency replacement at the embassy, and ways to extend the stay based on personal circumstances, such as marriage or having children in Thailand.

I have an update for those interested. I can come to Maptaput with either a marriage cert or child’s birth cert and get an extension up to two months or up to the expiry date of the passport which ever comes first.

If no marriage or birth cert of children they would only give me seven days.

Yep, thats a "visit thai family" 60 day extension. Good to know they'd issue it for either the full 60 days or as long as your passport was good for (if it was less than that).

I thought they'd just deny you the extension

Congrats

So your passport is valid till 2nd May 2019. Depending on the reason of your Non O and if you meet all the requirements you can apply for an Extension of Stay, BUT this will be till 2nd May 2019 and because you are now on overstay depending on leniency of the Immigration Officer.

why would any country in the world give you permission to stay with an invalid passport? that’s what you are technically requesting. 90 days for a 30 days passport. i don’t know about your embassy but at the german embassy i can get a new passport in a few days if i pay the urgency fee

you need a passport with 6 months valid at least. your embassy or going home are the only legal options

but you want 90 days which makes 60 days with an invalid passport. no country in the world gives you more days visa than your passport is valid. so why don’t you head to your embassy and get an emergency replacement? you might even get one valid for a year within one day

No you misread my passport is valid for another month

You can NOT have a permission to stay beyond your passport validity date. You need a new passport and hope it will be done during your current admitted to stay or otherwise face the consequences of waiting till it is to late. You should have known the passport validity date.

I did I have till May 2nd and thought they’d just give me the ninety days to transfer the new passport.

If you have one month, you could fly to Hong Kong and back. You need one month minimum to enter Hong Kong.

If you cannot get an extension in country, you have 2 choices. Apply for a new passport BUT you will continue to be on overstay or fly back to your country of passport and apply there.

Poipet border? If so, use another border.

I’m surprised they didn’t pull me up on that when I flew in last time. Basically I I’m thinking to try get extension from maptaput of two weeks to get a new passport or I’m going to need to fly home to NZ. Cross fingers for me tomorrow.

Florian Bogeschdorfer wrong information.

For Thailand, the 6 month validity rule was dropped a long time ago (December 2011 if my memory serves me correctly) for most nationalities eligible for visa exemption. Consular web-sites are rarely up to date, your passport needs to be valid only for the period of stay.
Florian ***************
Ron Angel don’t know where you got that from but every consulate will tell you differently. this is from the singapore thai embassy:”passport: must be valid for at least six months from the date of travel.”.
Ron *******
Thailand doesn't stipulate any period a passport needs to be valid for. Only needs to be valid for your length of stay
Ron *******
No country in the region is going to allow you entry with less than 6 months passport validity apart from maybe the Phillipines as i am certain like Thailand, they recinded the 6 month rule.

No I went to ban Pakkard. She seemed very nice but said the Cambodian side wouldn’t stamp it either.
