What should I do about my visa if my passport renewal delays past my stamp expiration in Thailand?

Hi, I have a question. I am sending my passport to Bangkok to get it renewed since I am out of pages. If I do not get my current passport back before my stamp runs out - what do I do in terms of immigration? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the implications for their immigration status if their passport renewal in Bangkok does not return before their visa stamp expires. The responses indicate that the individual will enter overstay status until their passport is returned, necessitating a visit to immigration to address this. Suggestions include extending the visa prior to sending the passport or considering applying for a new visa from a neighboring country. Clarifications about handling expired stamps and potential fines are also provided.

Okay IF you are getting a new passport. AND while you're waiting for the new one to come in you go on overstay, when you get the new and old passport back and go to the immigration office to transfer the stamps you will pay the 500baht per day overstay fine.

It is NOT waived because you're getting a new passport and didn't pay attention to your 'admitted until' stamp.

You should get your old passport back, for proof of Visa, unless they have changed the rules.

Check British Embassy site or Foreign and Commonwealth Office sites.

Good for her, hope news was positive.

No idea then, check US Embassy site, must tell you somewhere.

Do you not have to take your Passport there in person ?

No! I'm American and they have an option to send it by mail but it takes three weeks and I screwed up my timing with my stamp :(

maybe get an extension first. Or go apply in another neighboring country (Hong Kong, Malaysia or Singapore admits most people for 90 days)
Robert *******
You will be in overstay from the last day of your Admitted to Stay date till you get your passport returned and visit Immigration.

Technically, you need to go to the IO which serves your address... You need to be prepared at least your current address if you want to go to different IO.

Go Krabi, more relaxed, close to the pier and not that busy.

Awesome thanks! Do you know anything about Phuket immigration office versus Krabi? I'm currently in Phi Phi

@Dalyn ******
No, you can apply, usually up to 45 days, before and the extention is added to your existing 'admitted untill' date.

Ahh for some reason I thought that I had to wait until the day that 30 days was up to apply for extension
Steve *******
@Dalyn ******
Yep, it's added to your existing stay

Awesome thank you! My stamp doesn't expire until October 22nd but if I were to go to immigration within the next couple days and apply for an extension, they could stamp it now so it would be good until November 22nd? This would give me enough time to not have to worry about paying overstay for my new passport. There is enough room - as long as it only has to be

and not full

This is an example of the Extension of Stay stamp, if there is place enough than no problem.
Steve *******
Dalyn Cooke you'll need half a page for your extention of stay stamp

But this stamp doesn't need it's own page right? I just have the 30 day stamp but it is on the last page of my passport. It is the only stamp there so an extension stamp would also fit, as long as it doesn't need it's own page.

@Dalyn ******
yep, you can apply for an extention of stay upto around 45 days, depending on the Imm Office, before your existing stamp expires
Robert *******
Depening on your Visa and place in passport you can apply for Extension of Stay. If there is no place for this stamp than you won't get it.

Hmm.. ok. Is it possible to apply for an extension - either seven days or 30 days prior to when my stamp is up so I will not have to pay overstay? Also my last stamp for entering Thailand is on the last page of my passport. Thank you.
