How can I stay in Thailand until I receive my new passport and apply for a long-term visa?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I have just extended my visa exemption for one month from expiry 1st of october to 1st of november. I also have just renewed my UK passport one week prior because it was less than 6 months until expiration and I could not apply for an ED visa. They said allow upto 11 weeks until it is returned.

As far as im aware, I cannot extend my visa extension a second time without a land border re-entry (which i would not be able to do because I cannot enter without a 6 month+ valid passport).

Any advice on how I can stay in thailand until my new passport is given to me and I can apply for my long term visa?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on staying in Thailand after extending their visa exemption and applying for a new passport. They are concerned about overstaying while waiting for their new passport to arrive, given that they cannot conduct a visa run without an adequately valid passport. Several commenters share personal experiences with emergency passports, the possibility of overstaying, and the rules surrounding visa extensions and border runs. There is confusion about the enforcement of the 6-month passport validity rule in Thailand and suggestions are made to check the entry requirements of neighboring countries for a visa run.

11-12 weeks for the passport to arrive and can be up to 3 weeks for the appointment to put in the passport (10 days wait for me when I did it in March) so don't forget to add that on too. Or I do believe that their are quicker appointments for a fee.

Thailand has no rule about requiring 6 months on your passport to enter the country. You only need 6 months to apply for a visa.

If you want to do a border run, you'll need to check the requirements of the country you plan to go to though, and make sure they don't have a 6 month requirement or they won't let you in and to do a border or visa run you must stamp into another country.

, THAT's a "good one" indeed. Did not think about that. 🙄

I don't think Thailand enforces the 6 month rule, your problem is going to be which other country doesn't so you can do a border run.

, not sure about a border hop out/in Thailand again in e.g. Laos for 45 days from tomorrow on with passport not valid for more than 6 months. Ask in Thai visa advice group to be sure.

, that I did not read/understand in the original message. When that's the case, then maybe an emergency passport will help as already sugested 🤷‍♂️

He has no passport. He has applied for a new one and therefore his old passport was sent with the application.

I think you are between a rock and a hard place. Your current extension runs out in 30 days and you won’t be able to conduct a visa run due to your lack of passport. It would therefore appear you will be around eight weeks overstayed before you can try and rectify the situation, either with a visa run or application for your Ed Visa. Even if the embassy would give you an emergency travel document, I doubt it can be used for a border bounce. You could try and dodge the fine by producing your passport dispatch/receipt paperwork, but as usual everything in Thailand comes down to the person/office you speak to, not the legislation itself. Worst case scenario: your overstay might invalidate your Ed visa application.

My husband had less than a year on his passport and he used all the pages on his passport for visa stamps . Officer found one spot for Visa run from Malaysia . We went to US Embassy yesterday and they gave him an emergency passport in 2 hrs . He used that to get a Non O visa . Us Embassy said 2 to 4 weeks for his passport to come in from the US .
