Hi I just submitted my application for a new UK passport as the current one expires in April 2023.My current retirement extension ends on the 7 th December 2022.Vfs gave me back my passport and told me the new one will take 11 weeks and most likely longer. How do I apply for a new retirement extension this December or can do this I using my current passport which will only have approx 4 months left before expiry? Any other short term extension I could get until I get my new passport ?Ideas welcome .thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to apply for a retirement visa extension in Thailand while waiting for their new UK passport, which is expected to take longer than the expiration of their current retirement extension. According to a commenter, applying for an extension with the current passport will result in a limited extension until the passport expires, requiring another application for a new yearly extension afterward. Options like the 60-day visit extension related to family ties were also mentioned.

nope, there's nothing that will buy you the time, not unless you're married to a thai or have half thai children <- the 60 day visit thai family extension is all there is

A brit friend got his back in 8 weeks but that's the soonest I've heard.

Bad news is, if you apply for your extension on the passport you have you will only get an extension until it expires which you say is April. Then you'll have to apply for a whole new yearly extension in April all over again.

yes. My extended stay retirement visa expired on my US passport expiration date…the passport expiration date was 3 months before my retirement stamp expired. Immigration said my new retirement stamp can not be changed to the original expiration date. 3 week turnaround sending old passport to US Embassy Bangkok for a new passport.

thanks for that.its a pain but the lady at vfs said I needed 6 months or a year validity left on my passport to apply for a one year retirement extension so I will take your suggestion and just have to suffer it.so guess she was mistaken.

that lady at VFS doesn't know what she's talking about 😮

the rule is IF you apply for a yearly extension with less than a year left on it you get an extension until your passport expires.

So if you don't get your new passport by the time your extension comes due, you will get one until April 2023,

Then you'll get your new passport, get the stamps transferred to it and come April you'll apply for a NEW yearly extension (and april will be your yearly renewal date from then on)
