What should I do about my 90-day report as a non-immigrant O visa holder in Thailand?

Hello everyone!

I am due to report my 90 days ( first time ) and obviously online system isn’t operational. I currently hold a non immigrant O ( married to Thai) multiple entry visa valid for 1 year.

I went to the local immigration office in prachuap this morning and the person at the immigrations office told me that I had to leave the country and come back and get a stamp from the airport customs... she also gave me another option which is to change my current visa to a « visiting Thai family » visa (60 days validity)... or, supporting a Thai wife visa which required the 400k in the bank etc.

As for now, I cannot go with that option because my 90 days is due in 2 days May 13.

I have reached out to the Thai embassy where I initially got my non immigrant O visa and they told me that i didn’t have to go out of the country to report my 90 days.

Needless to say, this situation got me really confused, I am trying to do everything possible to meet the rules and regulations but this seems like total none sense..

Did anyone ever have this kind of issue? Can anyone tell me What options I have ?

Thank you all so Much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is due for their first 90-day reporting under a non-immigrant O visa (married to a Thai citizen), but faces confusion due to conflicting information from immigration and the Thai embassy regarding whether they need to leave the country to report. They have two days until the deadline and are exploring options for a family visit visa or a Covid extension, as their multiple entry visa is complicated by current travel restrictions. Several commenters offer advice, suggesting applying for the Covid extension immediately and later considering either extending or making a 'border bounce' to use their existing visa. They emphasize the importance of understanding visa rules and having appropriate funds for extensions.

Great advice, but people are missing a key part.

Your situation:

You can’t/shouldn’t leave. You can’t get your marriage extension in time. So the advice is to get either a visiting family or Covid extension. Great advice.

But, after this extension, you still have a valid multiple entry, unexpired visa. You have a choice then approaching the end of your family/covid extension. You can extend it. Or, you can leave the country, do a ‘border bounce’ and come back on another 90 stamp on your original Multiple Entry visa up to its expiry date.

Obviously this is only useful if the border restrictions are loosened, or if you don’t have the funds to extend in country.

I did this years ago. Multiple entry visa, got a job, an annual extension. 6 months later I quit my job. Cancelled my extension and then just left and came back in on my original visa. Did 3 more border bounces on my original visa, including one on the very last days before it expired for another 90 days.

Best of luck.

Go to your local immigration office to apply for Covid extension tomorrow or the day after tomorrow (<- the last day you don't have to be on overstay). Then sort out what and how you really want to do and get ready for that.

Lindsey **********
@Ellie ******
if he does not have a thai bank account to open one quickly, before he goes on a covid visa

They will not open an account for you on a covid visa

We tried at several banks for my friend

excellent advice 😊

I'd go for the covid extension first as well, you have until May 28th to apply.
Ellie *******
Yes, something like that. maybe just the e-mail reply. Or some announcement on their official website. Either should work.

Hopefully

@Wannikea ********
thank you so much for your precious advice!!! I will do exactly that 🙂 do you know what they require for that type of visa?
James ********
@Shawn *******
the COVID extension is simple to get.

Process is easy to get a COVID extension of stay.

You will need:

1. Your passport and a copy of..

a. The data (“picture “) page

b. Your entry stamp

c. Your visa (if you entered on a visa)

d. Copy of your departure card TM6

2. A copy of the TM30 submitted for your immigration office

3. 1 passport pictures

4. 1,900 Thai baht

5. Your signature on a form that you are aware of overstay fines.

,
@Shawn *******
, better to get the letter from your embassy to apply for Covid extension. The letter is the one that says you cannot travel OR they don't issue that letter.

If your said Prachuap immigration office is one in Hua Hin (I don't know exactly), there were the reports that IO asks that embassy letter.

thank you for the tip 🙂 so I understand if the embassy does not issue that letter, than they will just issue another letter saying they do not issue such a letter?

@Ja***
thanks really, suddenly feels a tad less complicated and confusing 👍 👍 👍 could you tell me if a transferwise online bank account is valid with 400k baht? Under my name of course
Wannikea *********
@Shawn *******
NO,it must be in a Thai bank
James ********
@Shawn *******
the money needs to be transferred into your new or current Thai bank account in your name only... Transfers how is your choice so long as they are international transfers.

Many expats do use what was called transfer wise to do it.

@Wannikea ********

Wannikea *********
Curious which consulate issued you a 1yr multientry in today's climate.

my wife and I are on a sabbatical actually, our intention was to stay in Thailand for 1 year but we were told by our embassy that we didn’t need to go in and out of the country and just go through the report after 90 days process at the local immigration in thailand.
Wannikea *********
@Shawn *******
Embassies know nothing about immigration, and vice versa. Rule of thumb for advice in Thailand.

@Shawn *******
luckily not too hard, a solution is there for you.
Wannikea *********
As James said, your option to stay is apply for 60 day family visit, and in the meantime put 400,000 baht into a Thai bank in your name, I forget if it needs to season 2 months or not, then when it's seasoned apply for a year extension based on marriage.
James ********
You just entered Thailand on a Non O visa as Married to Thai... That gave you 90 days stamped in stay ...

You say you have a multientry non o visa as married to Thai...

Right now that requires you to leave Thailand every 90 days and reenter Thailand to get another 90 days extension of stay.

With the land borders all closed and no border runs or visa runs to neighbor SE Asian Thai Embassy's ...that is not possible.

As your Thai immigration office said..

Your only choice now is to apply for the 60 days family visit extension of stay as married to Thai..

At the end of the 60 days either leave Thailand or get a one year extension of stay as married to Thai.

Your multientry visa is useless during COVID times.

Unless you plan on leaving Thailand to work and return to Thailand throughout the year...as many offshore oilfield and ship crew do.

Here is how you apply for the one year extension as married to Thai...

In addition to the 90 days on arrival from your Non O married to Thai visa....

You will also have the option to apply for a 60 days family visit extension. At Thai Immigration...stop in and ask for the list of requirements for it.

That gives you ample time to season the 400,000 Thai baht in a a Thai bank account in your name TWO FULL MONTHS before you apply for the one year extension as married to Thai.

The people that report are on an extension, not a visa, they got in on a 90 visa and then extended it in country for a year.

wow, the only reason I got this visa was to be able to do exactly what you just said! Can it not be extended the same way?

thank you so much for your very clear and swift reply ! Very helpful! May I ask you, how come some people with the same type of visa ( I’m not a 100 percent sure on this one) just need to go to immigration and report every 90 days and I have to leave and re-enter the country? Also, I heard of a covid extension that can be made for 60 days, can I apply for that and then apply for a “visit to thai family “for 60 days? This is just to buy me time so I can set my bank account because the money needs to be in there for 2 months so I understand. Finally , is the “as married to a Thai “ visa the same as “supporting a Thai wife” visa? Thanks again so much!
James ********
@Shawn *******
same same visa or extension of stay as Married to Thai.

And yes you should first apply for the COVID extension...

No later than Friday May 28 or before your current permission to stay date stamp expires. Not later than May 28 th... That is key date as COVID extension application period ends on May 28.

In previous years of no COVID... Fellas would get a one year non o multientry visa as married to Thai outside of Thailand... And no financial proof needed in Savannakhet Laos or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. But had to bounce out and back every 90 days to stay in Thailand.
