Is it possible to extend a non-O visa in Thailand by one month instead of letting it cancel?

I've been on a non-o visa for purpose of marriage for five years. I'm due to renew Aug 27th. However, I'm going to be back in the USA for months beginning Sep 2nd and I plan on letting the visa cancel and eventually coming back in on a new one. I'm wondering if there is a way to extend the current non-o by one month at immigration for a fee rather than leaving the country early to cancel it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on extending their non-O visa for marriage, which expires on August 27th, as they plan to be in the USA starting September 2nd. They wonder if it's possible to extend their visa for one month at immigration for a fee rather than letting it cancel and returning on a new visa. Responses suggest a potential 60-day family extension or obtaining a re-entry permit if they return before the visa's expiration.

You have the ability to extend your current stay before 27th August. Purchase a re-entry permit and as long as you are back in Thailand before 27th August 2024 you will be fine to continue on your current visa.

Andy you have forgotten he has to come back in 30 days after the under consideration period, which will be stamped in his passport.

careful with that advice

. When they apply for the extension, which they can do up to 30 days before their Aug 27th date, they will get a 30 day under consideration stamp because their extension is based on marriage

AND

they have to come back on that date to get the year extension stamped in

Any way they slice it they can't get away with having to be back here 30 days from Aug 27th <- the date the 30 day under consideration stamp will be added to

yeah that's kind of the issue I'm running into. I'm not going to be in the country to come back after the "under consideration" stamp. Plus I didn't want to have $12k sitting in Thailand while I'm not here. You never know what can happen in life.

oh wow, I didn't realize a reentry permit could last that long. Thank you for the info.

i think that might not work ๐Ÿ˜• because extensions based on marriage get a 30 day under consideration stamp and you return on that date to get the year inked in. You won't be back end of Sept to get the year extension.

I still think if you're only going for 2 months you could get a 60 day visit thai family extension just before this current stamp runs out to buy the time and then come back and apply for the year from that

yeah I'm pretty sure this is the route in going to take. I'm heading down to immigration early next week to sort everything out. You really helped me clarify everything.

You MIGHT be able to get a 60 day visit thai family extension for 1900baht (as long as you haven't had it since you entered the country last)

Remember because the 60 day extension is for a different reason than your extension it will not be added to your current expiration date and will start the day you apply for it

Go ask your immigration office and see what they say.

If you can't get that you could always bounce out and back to get off this extension and on to a free 30 day entry stamp

yeah I remember having a brief conversation with an officer about this very thing a couple years back, but I couldn't recall all the details. My schedule is so hectic the next few months, I've got an overseas business trip, then going to America for family events for some time. I was trying to see if I could save myself the extra bounce to KL, so hopefully I'll be able to get that extension. Looks like a drive down to immigration is in order. As always, I greatly appreciate your advice.
