What are my options for extending my 90-day non-O visa after leaving Thailand due to an emergency?

I have been in Thailand for 3 weeks on a 90-day non O. My plan was to apply for a 1 year extension of stay (I'm over 50). I just found out that I have to return to the US due to an emergency. I probably can return before the 90 days end. What are my options to salvage my plan to apply for 1 year extension of stay?

Can I get a re-entry permit from immigration (or the Phuket airport) for my current 90-day non O visa?

Or will I have to start over with a new 90-day non O?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a 90-day non-O visa in Thailand and plans to apply for a one-year extension of stay but needs to return to the US due to an emergency. There are two primary options: 1) Obtain a re-entry permit to return to Thailand before the visa expires; however, this permit is valid only until the current visa expiration date. 2) If returning before the visa expiration is uncertain, it may be simpler to leave Thailand and apply for a new non-O visa upon return. Depending on the visa type upon re-entry (either a tourist visa or visa-exempt entry), different insurance and application requirements will apply.

If you enter Visa exempt it only requires a Thailand Pass and $10,000 health insurance...gives you 30+30=60 days stay...

And that may change depending on when you return to Thailand.

Then apply for the Non O as retired inside Thailand...no insurance is required.

As Robert says, you'll need to get back into Thailand before your current non-o 90's stamp date.

You could apply for a non-o before returning, however you will also need to provide insurance cover to satisfy that, as per the image.

Where as if you just come back on a tourist visa, and apply for a non-o in country. A pain I know... You will only need to meet the much lower insurance requirements of Thai Pass

, You can apply for a 1-year extension on the very last day of your current stamp from the Non-O visa. A minimum 15day or more is the requirement for an in-country visa, not for an extension. Don't mix them.

as ever with another great steer. Many thanks. I wasn't aware that the 15+ days was only needed for an in-country non-o from the 90 day - to 12 month extension. If they arrived on a non-o they wouldn't need to submit with 15+ days left.

Many thanks again.

I will edit my comment.

The Re-Entry permit cost 1,000 Thb but is only valid until the Admitted until date stamped in your passport.

As you are not sure if you can make it back into Thailand before that date I would advice, just leave and apply for a new Non O visa before your next trip to Thailand.
