TLDR : Answer Summary
Paying for a 2-day overstay at the airport in Thailand is generally acceptable, as long as the fine is settled (500 THB per day for overstay). Most international airports will stamp your passport despite a minor overstay. However, repeated overstays can lead to complications when applying for new visas or reentering the country. While many users report that a minor overstay did not result in serious consequences, it is wise to avoid overstaying altogether.

It is not recommended to Overstay your Visa. If you make it to the airport you just pay the fine if less than 90 days, get the stamp and off you go. But if an official ask to show your passport before you make your way to the airport, even with 1 day overstay, things change. International Airports normally wave 1 day overstay fine, they still stamp your passport, if it is 2 days or more you pay 500 Thb a day. At this moment there are no problems to get back into the country with an overstay stamp in your passport, BUT if you like to apply for a new visa at the Thai Consulate in Penang or apply for the Thai Elite Visa they check your passport for overstay stamps. You will not be the first and for sure not the last foreigner with overstay and again best is to avoid overstay.

We've all overstayed at one time or another, just be careful and don't get caught outside, because if you do, then you will be jailed!

It only became intentional once the immigration lady said to do it. It wasn’t my original intention. If the Kingdom disallowed or jailed every foreigner that overstayed a visa there’d be no tourism industry and the country would be in a recession. They’re not going to ruin their economy over a couple day overstay. Their own rules even state it’s only a fine until you get to 90 days so clearly they’ve determined that small amount of overstay is ‘acceptable ‘.

lol, I never plan or books flights coming here. I fly Space-A from CONUS to eventually Singapore and then buy a one way ticket SIN-BKK/DMK because I never know when I’ll want to leave. And last time I ended up staying longer than expected because the wife said I should look for land to buy and like a good husband I said yes dear.

It is NEVER recommended to intentionally overstay your visa, regardless of what you may have heard from "others", including the lady at Immigration. IF you should get caught at a police checkpoint on an overstay, you would be in a boat load of trouble!...and some embassies plus Thailand Elite do take exception to visitors that overstay. Safe travels Sir!

Planning, you book flights before you come to Thailand. You can stay 30 days on a Visa Exempt Entry, but you calculate you are inside Thailand for more than 30 days. Get the Single Entry Tourist Visa before making your way and you get 60 days of stay at entry. This Visa is cheaper than a few days overstay fine and give you more ease than looking over your shoulder to avoid police for a few days.

That’s what makes Thailand so... interesting isn’t it? There are rules but they’re not rules only sometimes it all depends on who you know. And since I’m a rule follower by nature I was willing to pay the 1900 baht for 2 days rather than an overstay charge. But I’m not going to argue with immigration either so I followed her advice.

I guess my point is knowing and following the rules is probably the best course of action and if something goes your way and the rules weren’t necessary then consider it a bonus, not the norm. Because when you start planning for the short cut you get bit on the buttocks. Not the left cheek and not the right cheek but right in the middle.

Yes it’s ok. When I went to immigration for the same reason on my last trip, I wanted to stay 2 days longer, the immigration lady told me just pay the overstay because it’s cheaper. Of course I asked if there would be problems next time. She said no.

Next trip they noticed the overstay and stamped me in. And here I am!

That's common, many (in fact MOST) immigration officers will say to just pay the overstay fine if it's cheaper than the extension

I overstayed by 1 day and they didn't fine me but they wrote something on my passport which I'm guessing they have issued a warning.

Only a few days, just pay the fine. No ban.

Do Indonesians have unlimited access to Thailand? It appears you have many back to back entries and extensions.

@Has****
then ASEAN country citizens have unlimited access to Thailand ? Would an OVERSTAY STAMP in your passport affect your future entry into Thailand ?
Hasnita ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Yes, ASEAN countries policy
James ********
Why would you choose to overstay vs getting a legal extension of stay?
James ********
@David ******
and for sake of 900 baht risk having overstay stamp in passport. Might affect future entry?
Jonn *********
Two days 1000 baht

Extension 1900 baht

Or maybe circumstances they haven't mentioned?

Yes, should be no problem
