Hi, Is that normal? I went to immigration in Pattaya to extend my marriage visa for another year after one year. She stamped my passport until the end of January and said that I would only receive the visa after the police had been in the building to visit us? Has anyone experienced the same thing?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is normal for Thai immigration in Pattaya to issue a temporary extension stamp on your marriage visa until a police visit is completed. This visit typically involves checking if you and your spouse are genuinely living together by asking questions to neighbors and possibly taking photographs of your living situation. It is common practice and varies by province, with similar procedures reported by many expats.
Yes normal in Pattaya and provinces but not Bangkok . They stamp under consideration and you return for full year stamp in Bangkok … last 11 times anyway
Perfectly normal for marriage extension. They'll call you to setup a time and come and take photos and possibly speak to your neighbors. Also not uncommon for them to ask for some "gas money" or something similar.
Yes normal , 1 month under consideration stamp. They come to where you live to check you actually live there, question the neighbours , take pictures. You will get about 30 minutes notice.
