Hi, could you please advise me. I am going to extend my visa based on marriage. I have been doing it for the last 3 years but never been asked for a police clearance. Can you tell me if someone else had had to do this? And how much would it cost and how many days will it take. I have to go on Monday to the police headquarters near Siam center. Thanks. Much obliged.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether a police clearance is required for extending a marriage-based visa in Thailand, despite having extended the visa for three years without being asked for it. Community members share their experiences, noting inconsistencies in the requirements enforced by immigration officers. There is debate on the necessity of the clearance, and some suggest obtaining it to avoid complications, while others express concerns about potential repercussions of questioning the immigration officer's request.
Okay, in bangkok you get a police report from the Special Branch Headquarters down on Sukhumvit Road next to the Thai Police Hospital

If I understand, I believe his main concern is what could the repercussions be if he were to ask for a supervisor.
That choice is up to you. I doubt that the IO is looking to harm you, it could be that they do not know the exact rules and a supervisor should either be able to explain why the police clearance is needed, or scrap it all together?
Edit: and take your wife, so there's no language barriers.

M Rafiqul Alam There is no repercussions to ask for a supervisor, and there's no repercussions to file an appeal. However, it may also be a "pick your battle" thing too. If the OP lives close to the central police station, get the police clearance.
very far from the police station. Also their delivery schedule is 15 days after submission. My visa expires on the 18th. I will go on Monday to get the details about that. Hope I can make it. Bit worried.
I just wanted to know if someone else had faced a similar situation for reference.

On Monday, either go to the central police department and get the police clearance, or ask for the handout from the immigration officer on the requirements.
It seems simple; what specific advice do you need?
no please. Your advise is much appreciated. Most obliged .

Even the officer checking the document at the reception desk didn't say anything about a police clearance when he gave me the check list. Only when I got the token snd went to my IO she went and talked to some other lady behind her and came back and asked me to get one. I went to get the police clearance but was told that I needed a letter from the immigration office. So I went back again and this time she typed the letter for me and told me to ask them how many days for delivery as my visa runs out on the 18th of this month. She didn't bother to give me the letter the first time though.

Sound like Immigration gave you very specific instruction already, including informing them how long police report issuance would take (means longer than your extension expiration or not). I'm not sure what you are worried about, but your choice might be:
going to get the police report then talk to the immigration officer including about what day you would get one, before or later your due date, as their instruction
or
talking to the supervisor at the immigration office
or
make appeal.

The list does not show police clearance required. But my IO insists I need it. I think she us just giving me the the run around. What can I do, please advise. Should I complain to her superior officer, or that would incur her wrath on my application?
if you do it in Bangkok... 5000 baht you get it in 3 days posted, 300 baht... a month to 2 months wait..... I do mine every year there for work... if you a Brit use disclosure Scotland but then itβs posted to your c/o address in UK then someone can scan it for you and email it on... takes anything up to 2 weeks
