On home visits for retirement and marriage visa issued at Chaengwattana: so as reported yesterday I applied for change of US tourist visa to 90 day O for retirement, with both bank balance )฿800K and US Embasy letter as to income and residence. They approved me to come back in 2 weeks to get my passport stamped. But they said officers would visit my rented condo, had me draw a map and give phone number. Today 2 officers visit-pleasant, limited English. They spoke to my Thai landlord, he said they told him to register me if he hadn’t, but didn’t check. They took pictures of me, condo, contract, bankbook, landlord’s ID. Then they said they needed a Thai that knew me to come in person and sign papers. I don’t know neighbors nor the guy at juristic office. The landlord sent a family member to be my new Thai friend. The officer showed me his work for the day–pictures of about 6 other Farangs, some with Thai wives/girlfriends. Just to let everybody know. I had my papers in order..,
TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat shares their experience regarding the home visits required for a retirement visa (NON-O) application at the Chaengwattana office in Thailand. After applying to change their US tourist visa to a 90-day NON-O retirement visa, the applicant was informed that immigration officers would visit their rented condominium. The visit included speaking with the landlord, taking photographs of the applicant and their living situation, and verifying documentation. Importantly, the officer requested a Thai individual to come and vouch for the applicant, leading the landlord to send a family member to assist. The process appears to be routine for many Farangs, highlighting the necessity of being well-prepared with documents and local contacts for successful visa applications.
