Is a hotel-issued letter sufficient instead of a TM30 for immigration reporting in Thailand?

I asked my hotel for a TM30 so that I can go to immigration and get a TM47 / 90 day report, but all they gave me was a signed letter from the hotel manager stating that I have been staying at the hotel for a while etc.

Does that seem normal to everyone?

I was under the impression the TM30 was like an official form or something.

Are hotels different in that this letter will suffice?

Anyone know?

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is inquiring whether a signed letter from their hotel manager stating their stay is an adequate substitute for the TM30 form required for immigration reporting in Thailand. Responses suggest that while some users have received TM30 forms from hotels, others point out that a signed letter may not be sufficient and recommend verifying the hotel's online registration system. Some assert that the immigration office should have access to their registration records, while others caution that the letter is not a formal TM30 and advise taking the letter to immigration for clarification.

I think that you will be fine

It would depend om whether the hotel has registered you , immigration will check on their computers

yeah, based on the responses it seems to me that hotels are connected to some kind of immigration interface to automate the TM30 registrations whereas the private landlords don’t have that so have to revert to old school paperwork.

I guess what I was really trying to avoid was having to go back and forth to immigration because I’d done something wrong or had missed some piece of important information/documentation that is required.

This is my first lodging so I just want to get it right to save myself from any headaches.

I’m not overly worried about getting it wrong, I’m more worried about me messing around 3 or 4 times, with back and forths to hotels and messing about with whatever requirements I may have missed.

Immigration office is probably half an hour away from where I am so I don’t really want to spend a day sitting in the car going back and forth because I forgot this or that, or the letter from the hotel isn’t correct, or that I didn’t bring a copy of some other random thing that I should have brought.

In this instance , you should just worry about it if and when it happens

Signed letter is not equivalent to TM30 in any shape or form. What you need is a screenshot from the online registration system.

Did you check in more than a week ago? That stupid online system only allows you to go back one week or so. They probably reported your stay as required, but can’t produce evidence

this will be my first time reporting and as I mentioned I was just trying to make sure I had everything I needed before I went there to save headaches/stress.

I’ve been here for about 2 months, and have only been in hotels.

I’ll probably only ever be in hotels because that’s what I prefer so I don’t have a “landlord” as such.

Unless, of course the hotel is my landlord which I’m starting to think is absolutely the case.

I believe these are done online now

Take the letter to immigration and stop worrying.

I have gotten tm30 from many hotels… at least 4 times. Pretty sure it’s illegal for them to not give you one

I have never been given one by a hotel. When I went to do my extension or 90 day the details were in the system. I think the letter will suffice.
