TLDR : Answer Summary
If you hold a 12-month multiple entry spouse visa (NON-O) as an Australian passport holder, there is no limit on the number of land border crossings you can make. The confusion arises with visa-exempt entries, which only allow two land border crossings in a calendar year. With your multiple entry visa, you can leave and re-enter Thailand as many times as you wish while remaining compliant with the requirement to check out after 90 days.

On a multiple entry Non O visa like the OP stated you can’t do 90 day reports as you are not allowed to be in country for 90 days. You must bounce out on day 89 so therefore don’t do a report.

Help me out here. This gentleman has a 12 month, multiple entry spouse visa. WHY does he have to do a border run every 90 days instead of a normal 90 reporting at a local immigration office. It is no wonder people get confused with there being so many visa types.
A 12 month “spouse visa” is a non O visa valid for 12 months. A non O visa allows entry for 90 days. After 90 days the holder must leave thailand and reenter to activate the next 90 day period. Time it right and you can get almost 15 months from that visa.
The advantage of this visa is that you do not need funds in Thailand to obtain it. The disadvantage is having to bounce every 90 days.

Ii have the same visa. Did my first run to aranyaprathet. Was taken to one side by thai immigration on re entry and told I was only allowed 1 land border, next time I would have to fly. I asked why as I had a legit 1 year multi entry visa and did not get a reply. I know its the worst border but still makes no sense.
That border is a law unto itself. Doesn’t matter what the “rules” are, they’ll just make them up on the spot. Avoid at all costs.

As many as you like of course! It's a multiple entry visa.

You can do as many border crossings as you like it's a multi-entry visa. The restriction to 2 land border crossings only applies to people without a visa.
A lot of people get confused with this unfortunately. Those with no visa using visa exempt entries are limited to two entries in a calendar year. Those with any actual visa are not limited.
Yours is a multiple entry visa so in theory you can leave and reenter (by land, sea or air) as many times as you like whilst the visa is valid.
Bounce just before the visa expires. Get 90 days. Then apply for a visit family visa and you’ve got nearly 17 months out of that one visa.
it’s a visa (actually an extension) that you can apply for once on any entry to Thailand if you have a Thai spouse or kids (under 20). It gives you 60 days on application so you don’t want to do it early.

What do you think "Multiple Entry" means?

2 entries at a land border using visa exempt (meaning no visa).
