Hello everybody. Is there any limit on doing border crossings by land? I already did 2 of them this calendar year via NongKhai (flew from CM to Udon Than, then went to Vientiane by taxi) to get a 60 days tourist visa. I need to get a new tourist visa from Vientiane. It will be the 3rd one and I would like to avoid problems :) An option would be to do everything by air but it's much more expensive so if I can do it again by land that would be awesome. Thank you in advance for your help and advices

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation clarifies that there are no limits on the number of land border crossings for travelers holding a tourist visa, while there are restrictions (2 land entries per year) for those using visa-exempt entries. Users suggest alternatives for border runs to save costs, emphasizing the distinction between different types of visas.

Yes, it's an *anti-backpacker* law. They want to block people from doing very cheap border run all year while not contributing at all to the economy.

@Robert ******
so, the 2 land crossings per calendar year is only applicable for those having a VISA Exempt Entry?
Robert *******
There is NO limit, only when using Visa Exempt Entry. Please advice correct or just scroll to other topics.

No, u are allowed only two visa exempt land crossing per calendar year. If u have a tourist visa u can come by land unlimited number of time per year.

I recommend u go to Myanmar for ur first border run of the year. U go by bus in the morning and u are back around dinner, it's a day trip run. It cost a lot less then going to Vientiane for a tourist visa. In and out of Tachilek for 500b, and bus roundtrip very cheap. U will get 30 days + 30 days extension for 1.9k baht. It's not 90 days but it's a lot less time confusing then a trip to Vientiane, and a lot less costly.

There is NO limit on crossing land borders when using a VISA, only for people from certain countries by using a Visa Exempt Entry (Entry without Visa).

There is only a limit of 2 entries by land border a calendar year for people carrying a passport of these countries:

Okay.

If u read carefully she talk about doing a 60 days tourist visa in Vientiane, there is no limit on how many time u can enter Thailand by land with a tourist visa.
Maxim ***********
The 2 land border run per year apply only to the 30 days visa exempt entry, not the 60 days tourist visa.

You're allowed 2 land entries per calendar year if using the 30-day visa exemptions. There is no limit on number of land entries if using tourist visas.

What about boat take a cruise ship or is that consider land?
