Can I cross the land border into Thailand with a new tourist or Non-O visa after exhausting my limit of two entries?

I’ve been told it’s okay but just want to be sure. There is a limit of two land border crossings allowed in one year. I’ve made two, but Immigration in Korat said I will need to get a 60 day tourist or 90 day O in Laos and come back. Will it be okay to cross by land with the new VISA?

I was hoping to drive to Savvanakhet.

For clarification, I’ll be completing the paperwork for a legal marriage, and pursuing a retirement or marriage VISA once I return. It has just taken forever to get the correct forms I need from the American government.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of crossing the land border into Thailand with a newly obtained tourist or Non-O visa after already making two land border entries in a year. Immigration indicated they need to obtain a visa in Laos before returning. Comments suggest that the limit on land crossings applies only to those entering without a visa, and anyone holding a visa is not subject to this restriction. Additionally, one user recommends obtaining the Non-O visa in Savannakhet instead of waiting.

Why not get your Non-O (retirement) in Savannakhet, why wait?

good question. I had planned on just doing a marriage VISA because though I’m barely 50, I’m not fully retired yet.

You're 50, that's the requirement not retired

I was reading the other day from the Thai Embassy site. It sounded like you need to provide proof of a monthly “pension.” I wish I had one, or the assets some have, but I don’t. They want 800k in a Thai bank. I need my 800k earning a return instead.

The 800k is not tied up for life as some would have you believe. With a Non-O obtained outside of Thailand it is needed from 2 months before applying for a retirement extension to 3 months after. 400k is needed for the remainder of the first year if switching to the 65k monthly deposit method (the 400k difference could be recycled to provide some of the 12 deposits required). They say pension but it is any international deposit of 65k or more which can be used as soon as it it received (and recycled if required).

The 2 per year limit by land is a ONLY for visa exempt entries (no visa). If you have a visa you're not subject to any entry limits.
