TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster, a UK citizen, is planning to travel to Thailand with a 2-month tourist visa and is inquiring about the number of allowed border crossings. Comments indicate that with a single-entry tourist visa, the individual cannot perform border runs as the visa allows only one entry. It's mentioned that you can typically have up to two land crossings within a calendar year, while air entries are theoretically unlimited, but excessive entries may lead to complications or refusals at immigration.

2 land border crossings in one calender year.

You get two border bounces and 6 via air , but that was pre covid19 so things undoubtedly will change , usual advice buddy , wait and see , always like doing border bounces ,
Steve *********
Although there's unlimited air entries ... in practice, after a while, you'll be pulled over and refused. There's no number to give you as it's down to the individual immigration officer, but if you're in and out too often, beware!

@Rob *******
u forgot a 30 day extension at immigration. 30 day .u can do a 30 day then a border run then a 30 day then a border run before flying. That's 60 plus your 60 day visa.

There is NO limit on visa exempt entries by Air.

Flying I’ve done that for four years, now all this it’s time to retire and let my directors run the business

Allan ************
@Sj ******
I’m not your mate, and you do not understand English humour, you have kept us entertained, while we enjoy a beer good food and lovely views, you are like a small yapping dog that does not know it’s limitations because it’s stupid.
Allan ************
@Sj ******
I’m enjoying an ice chilled beer, you are obviously a sad person, first never sell your assets in your country of origin, I’ve built a mansion in Thailand, my businesses pay for my lifestyle here, and it’s great, my beautiful wife of course would not be with me if I was poor, money makes any man handsome, and I would not be with her if she was not stunningly attractive, you have obviously failed in life and very envious of successful people, cheers .
Allan ************
@Sj ******
wow more words from the court jester, you no nothing about me, and do not need to, in other comments you have made an idiot of yourself, your vulgarity and stupidity shows through all the time.
Allan ************
@Sj ******
obviously I’ve shown you up for the clown you are, Goodbye
Allan ************
@Sj ******
vile coarse vulgar reply was unnecessary, you obviously lack, a good command of English and education, you need reporting this is not the place for you.

What is with all the confusing answers?

if you want to stay here 6 months then you get a 60 day tourist visa in your home country

then whilst in Thailand you extend it for 30 days for 1900baht after your 90days in you fly out and back in (on the same day if you like) giving you another 30 day’s

you then extend again for 1900 baht so now we are up to 5 months in Thailand

You then repeat flying out and back in = 6months

or 7months if you want to extend the second Visa on arrival

- it simply worked like this before covid. I live here on visa runs like many other people but because of that I will have to return to UK after the amnesty and figure out another way 🙁
Martin *********
I never said that you can extend a border run to 90 days I said you don't have to fly out.
Martin *********
@Ashton *******
u don't need to fly out after 90 days u can border run.then extend then border run.180 days. 6 months
Stan *******
Yes, you can do the first part like that, but if you are leaving (as you have to) why not just fly to Penang or van to Vientiane and get a second SETV? That way you get 6 months and not 5 and save having to leave the country more than once.

After the 2 tourist visas, if you are really desperate, then you can start doing border hops until they tell you no more allowed.
Tod *********
I didn't even bother to read the all the replies but in scanning them you got some good and some crap answers.

IF you get a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here you will get stamped in for 60 days AND you can extend that for 30 days at the immigration office ONCE for 1900baht.

Then you'd have to either go to a thai consulate in a nearby country and by a new tourist visa OR go to a border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and then stamp back in to thailand to get what's called a 30 day visa exempt entry. You could extend either the tourist visa entry OR that 30 day visa exempt entry by another 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht.

You are allowed TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year Jan 1 - Dec 31.

What kind of people live here for years on these visa runs? I thought visa runs were over long time ago, but they are still around. What are they doing here? Selling drugs?
Stan *******
You cant do any border crossings on a 60 day single entry tourist visa. That's because it is what it says - a *single entry. One in, none out until you leave.

If you leave before the 60 days, the visa immediately ceases. You can't just leave and come back a few days later because you've forfeited those other days.

Seld defence education visa. There is Muay Thai education visa. I don't have time for your nacissist BS.
Michael ******
Reentry permit has there own special line at Immigration. Single and multiple entry are possible with there rules. Be nice. Smile. Have a good attitude and not a spoiled entitled western attitude.
Michael ******
If your in Chiang Mai or any other area of Thailand you can get a ED (self defense) self defense visa and pay the extra fee for a multiple entry visa. Not sure if that visa is good for 6 months, but one year for sure. Muay Thai training in most other areas is also a available. It's only an option. I had a 60 day tourist + 30 day extension. During this time I got a single use reentry permit to return to The Philippines. I did this twice. I also did the Vientiane visa run to get another 60 day tourist visa + 30 day extension. If I remember correctly I think a multiple reentry permit was possible when I got my reentry permit. Check Thailand immigration and Thai embassy/consulate for further updated information.

Steve *********
2 land crossings in a calendar year. Theoretically unlimited air entries.

HOWEVER if it starts to look like you're not on the correct visa, or staying too long, you can unexpectedly get refused.
Allan ************
@Steve ********
three times in six months jan- June three times July to December
Phill ******
spot on , on your 6th re-entry an alert comes up i the immigration computers , then they start to ask questions ,and look closely at your passport stamps . best to avoid that .
Lyndon ************
To clarify, land border crossings are limited, x2 per calandar year. If you cross using a visa, SETV, METV etc these don't count but your thailand travel history may be looked at , questioned and possibly refused entry.
Stan *******
@Steve ********
no, that's for visa exemptions. He's referring to a single entry tourist visa
Mark *******
Be careful of too many tourists visa on your passport if your retirement age
